The Rover that transported Nathan back to his apartment stopped a few feet before his entrance. It was unusual for the Rover to stop there but Nathan didn't bother to dwell on it. Getting off early meant getting away from the boring soldiers that accompanied him on every ride.
He stepped away from the Rover and watched it drive off. As soon as he turned in the direction of his apartment, strong hands grabbed him and slammed his back against the wall of a nearby building.
Nathan's shock eased off once he recognized the face that was less than one millimeter away from his. It was Nurse Reese. Her lips were positioned directly in front of his, almost touching them. Nathan's brows creased together in a frown.
"Is she trying to kiss me?"
Nurse Reese pulled back and smiled at him.
"That was one awkward moment. I was trying to be all macho and it almost backfired."
The embarrassed expression on her face made Nathan laugh out loud. He couldn't believe himself.
"How could I have thought Nurse Reese was trying to kiss me?"
"Thank goodness it didn't completely backfire. I would have been scarred for life!" He grinned.
