Mothers Day

12 year old Katie Quinn sat impatiently on the edge of her chair. She gripped the sides of the cushion so hard her knuckles began to turn white. She grinned wildly, bouncing her legs up and down out of pure excitement. 'It's finally Mothers Day!'  she thought happily in her head. 'Ohhh, Mom is going to be so surprised when she sees what Mike, Dad and I did for her! I can't wait to see her face...!' Katie began to smile again, her lips seeming to almost touch her ears.

'Well...bad this is, she's still asleep.' She frowned. 'Eh, whatever! It's her day! If she wants to sleep, so be it!' Katie giggled, and held her hand up to cover her mouth. Her brown/green eyes darted around the room, hoping nobody heard her.

"Katie? You OK in there?" Her dad called out from the kitchen, where he was currently making a special Mothers Day Breakfast with Mike, her younger brother. "Yeah Katie, are you OK? Stop talking to yourself!" The young boy yelled.

"Hey! I'm not crazy, I just though of something funny!" Katie hissed back. She stuck her tongue out, and mumbled an insult under her breath.

'Hey, hey you two. Stop fighting, your going to wake the queen from her slumber." Her dad remarked. "Aww, Dad, eww! Don't call her that...call her...uh..." Mike put his hand to his chin in thought. "Uh, call her The Best Of All The Moms In The History Of Ever!" He smiled and looked up to his father. Katie just looked at the two boys and laughed. "Ah, you guys are just too funny." She shook her head and grinned.

"Oh yes, we know, Katie." Her dad smiled back. "Now! These delicious waffles aren't going to make themselves, are they? We need to get back to work, Mikie-Boy!" He ruffled his sons hair playfully. "M'kay, lets get at it."

Katie looked back at her mothers door. 'Oh, come onnn! Wake up! I just can't stand it any longer, I'll explode!' She whined in her head, beggin her Mom to get up. Finally, like an angel answering her prayers, she heard the familiar sound of the bed creaking, and she leapt out of the seat; ready to greet her mother.

"Dad! Daaad! She's awake! Come on come on come on!" Katie leapt up and down on the balls of her feet, grinning and giggling. She had picked up a bright pink and purple handmade card, with a large heart in the middle of it, and was holding it for dear life.

Then her heart seemed to skip five beats, and leapt out of her chest. "Mom! Mommyyy! Happy Mothers Day!" She cheered, and leapt to her (very surprised) mom and locked her in a warm embrace. "Oh! Ohh, Katie, thank you!" She smiled sweetly, and hugged her daughter back lovingly. "Hey, Mom? Guess what!" She grinned, and waited for her mom to respond. "What? I have no idea!" She smiled back. "Well...I made you a poem!" Katie cheered, then bolted away to grab her laptop where she had written it. "Here you go, read it!"

Her mother smiled and took the laptop. Inside, on the bright screen, lay fancy letters saying:

"Mom, you're a wonderful mother,

So gentle, yet so strong.

The many ways you show you care

Always make me feel I belong.

You're patient when I'm foolish;

You give guidance when I ask;

It seems you can do most anything;

You're the master of every task.

You're a dependable source of comfort;

You're my cushion when I fall.

You help in times of trouble;

You support me whenever I call.

I love you more than you know;

You have my total respect.

If I had my choice of mothers,

You'd be the one I'd select!"

Her mom beamed, and hugged her daughter tightly. "Aww, thank you, Katie!" To her great joy, Mothers Day was a huge success. She grinned and hugged her mom back. "Love ya, Mommy!" "Love you to, hon."
