about the first girl I had a crush on.
freckles,
spread across your face like constellations,
mapping out the road that lies on sun kissed skin
a laugh,
that could sound as sweet and mellifluous as an orchestra,
and equally a cacophony of a elementary school band,
beautiful all the same
a smile,
portraying your happiness,
bright, eager, pure
you flashed that smile at me once,
I was the reason for your child-like happiness,
the levity that pierced through me like a shard of glass cutting through bone,
burying deep into my ribcage,
a constant reminder of you
you laughed because of me once,
I filled your heart with helium,
as you did mine,
and we rose,
we rose into the sky,
hand in hand,
until the city below us was undistinguishable
I used to count your freckles when you weren't looking,
counting the ones on your face, the ones that traced up your back.
Your whole body was a galaxy.
constellations swirled together until they formed a galaxy all their own,
you were millions upon millions of galaxies all wrapped up inside one person
I have freckles too,
but counting them doesn't feel the same when they are your own
