Jake, 17, paced back and forth in the barricaded grocery store, the sun peaked through the cracks and holes in the barricade. He looked over to Harry, 24, his black hair sticking to his face, it was hot and sweat ran down his nose. He was still just sitting there staring blankly at the floor. Cathy, 20, was looking out the cracks in the barricades, holding her blood covered crowbar close to her chest. “Any sign of them?” Jake asked her, his voice shaking a little. The other three of the group had most of their supplies and weapons. “No, nothing. Nothing at all” She replied, her voice trailing off. Jake picked up his dented and bloodied baseball bat and headed over to the window. She was right, nothing was out there, there was always at least one infected hanging around. “The plane, it must have caught their attention. Went to investigate” Said Harry, still looking at the floor. A plane flew over about 5 minutes ago and dropped small pieces of paper over the city. It wasn’t too far away so 3 of our group went to grab some, to see what it was about.

They heard gunshots from down the street, lots of gunshots. “Shit! Help me out!” Jake growled and went to remove the barricades from the door, Cathy slowly moved away from the window and helped him. It was mainly chairs and pieces of scrap wood they found around the dark grocery store, easy to remove. Jake moved the last chair and turned to Harry, he threw Jake a black pistol, he didn’t know how to use it but he knew the basics. “One clip, don’t waste it” Harry said, calmly. Jake nodded his thanks and ran up to a car they used as cover, no sign of anyone. The gunshots echoed down the street, he had to hurry. The end of the parking lot wasn’t far, he looked down the street, the three of their group were taking cover from a group of humans, firing shots at them. Their weaponry wasn’t good enough to take on a group of humans yet. Jake heard a choking growl behind him and instinctively threw his elbow back, catching a zombie in its nose, he spun around and shot it right through the eyes. Once it fell he noticed more zombies, too many to count, he knew they had to run.

Jake ran back to the small grocery store and shouted out “We have to go! Now!” Harry ran out and gestured him inside “I have a plan, follow me, we can help the others easier from here” He said calmly. Jake had no choice but to follow him, no one has gone wrong following his advice before. He led Jake and Cathy to the back of the grocery store, where a panel was gone from the roof, the inside was flooded with sunlight. Harry climbed up a nearby shelf and into the hole, the two others followed him closely.  Harry led them to the roof and jumped off the back into a dumpster inside a back alley, he climbed out and waited for the other two to follow him. Jake and Cathy were led down the alleyway until they reached an opening. Harry reached out and asked for the pistol from Jake, the bandits were just outside of the alleyway opening. “Sneak up slowly and quietly. Stay in cover. No sound” Harry whispered to them and snuck up to the edge of the building, just enough to see the bandits up the road. Jake passed Harry with Cathy behind him, he could just see the others fighting for their lives behind the cars. Jake darted from car to car, getting closer to the bandits as he went. He counted at least 4. Jake snuck up directly behind one with a machine gun, he was screaming and spamming bullets out. Jake smashed the baseball bat into the side of his head, sending him sprawling onto the ground, throwing his gun onto the car in the process, 3 more to his right. Cathy was just sliding the sharp end of her crowbar out of a man’s back, he slumped lifeless onto the hood of his car. Only one bandit figured out what had happened through the loud gunshots and went to shoot Cathy with his shotgun, his brains were blasted out by Harry. The last bandit was taken out with two gunshots to his back, also by Harry. Jake stood on the hood of a car and waved with two hands towards his team mates, they ran up towards them, recognising him as a friendly. One looked injured and the others were fine.

The six met up at the entrance of the alleyway. Harry led them through it towards the grocery store, he searched under the dumpster and took out a key, everyone looked at him, wondering how he managed to do everything he does. Harry unlocked a door no one noticed at the back of the store and entered, everyone followed. They barricaded the front door again and sat down in a rough circle, Cathy was at the window still. George, 36, extremely muscular, bald, walked up to Harry and passed him a piece of paper, Harry sat there staring at it, not a sign of thought or conscious to his face. Jake looked around for the other two, they were to his right, Kate, 28, long brown hair and pretty face was tending to a wound on Andrew’s leg, he was 26, short hair and quite muscular. His leg looked like it was shot. Jake remembered seeing a crutch in the barricade and went to find it while Harry made up his mind about whatever was on the piece of paper.

Jake was surprised about the paper, Cathy was still staring out the window, no emotion present. Jake had no idea the military would actually evacuate the remaining survivors! He didn’t even know there was a military anymore. “What do you think, Harry?” asked George. Harry sat there, hands clasped in front of his mouth, eyes darting to each of the survivors before going back to the ground. He stood and turned towards the wall behind him, his back to everyone in the room. “We go. Escape will arrive. We’ll be safe” Everyone in the room had hopeful smiles on their faces, Jake never realised how much he enjoyed Harry’s robot-like way of talking until that moment.
