The Perfect

Chapter 1

Now one girl who was born on the moon colony secretly wanted to learn the ways of the Asari. Her name was Cadence. Her family had taught her since she was born to hate all animals, but she never understood why. She thought many of them were cute and others majestic. She had witnessed the brutality her family, friends, and neighbors used when treating animals. She never indulged in the slaughtering of the farm animals or the hunting of the woodland creatures, but she always witnessed the acts of cruelty. She would always release the skunks, raccoons, hedgehogs, or even wild cats, possibly bears when they got into the traps her father and brother set out. They always wanted to kill these so called 'vermin'. She would hide them away in her tree house and tend to their wounds as best she could before releasing them back into the wild. She was a loving and compassionate girl who only wished to help the poor innocent creatures of the "world" she lived on.

Cadence just wished that there was somewhere she could go to escape all the madness she had to call home. She got the opportunity one night when she heard four plasma-gun shots outside. She looked out the window and saw her brother and father shooting at a couple of figures in the darkness. She then noticed that they were heading directly for her. First a peacock flew through her window, then a human with a blaster in hand, and a blue skinned humanoid creature followed in suit. The man introduced himself as Kalen. The creature said she was an Asari, and her name was Mia. Then the peacock began to speak and Cadence fainted. When she regained her consciousness, the peacock introduced himself as Stephano and explained that, on Earth, all animals can talk due to the fact that the Asari helped them learn the human language. Cadence asked "What is Earth?" Then, Cadence's father burst through the door and shot into the room. He accidentally shot her in the shoulder. Cadence blacked out. When she woke up she was in a clearing under a giant tree.

Cadence opened her eyes and looked around. She saw Mia off to her right and Stephano off to her left. They both had their backs to her. She tried to get up but cried out in pain from her shoulder. Mia immediately looked back at Cadence and went over to her.

"Are you okay, young one?"

"Not really," Cadence replied through gritted teeth. "Do you possibly have any medi-gel with you?"

"Yes dear. Just hold on. KALEN GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE!"

"I'm right here, you don't have to yell all the time. Anyway, what did ya need Mia?"

"I want you to bring me the medi-gel, so we can get this girl up and running for whatever happens next." Kalen then ran off to fetch the medi-gel while Cadence studied her surroundings.

"Where are we?"

"We are in The Hollow. It is a sanctuary for anyone loyal to Earth that gets stuck on this dreaded moon. Right now that is us."

"But what about my family?"

"We didn't kill them if that's what you're asking. We merely knocked your father out, grabbed you, and ran here," Kalen said, after returning.

"But won't they find us here?" Cadence replied, now soothed by the medi-gel freshly applied to her wound.

"No exile can ever enter The Hollow without the help of an Earthling. They would hopelessly get lost and slowly lose their mind." Mia shook her head in sympathy. "After you get some more rest, we will leave. If you need to get anything at your house, let Kalen know. He is good at sneaking around and snatching things." Mia glared at Kalen.

Kalen looked at her quizzically. "What?!"

"Nevermind. Just go get the girl's belongings, please."

"Yes ma'am!" Kalen saluted.

"ALL OF THEM KALEN!!!! For now, rest my dear." Cadence closed her eyes and went to sleep.
