I walked into class and looked around for a spot to sit. All the desks were in rows facing the front. I chose the desk in front of the teacher's projector in the front center of the classroom.
I put my backpack against the desk and sat down. My friend Kayla sat down 3 desks behind me in the next row over.
I took out my pencil and the teacher passed out the tests.
Ok. Deep breaths. In. Out.
First question:
2x + 15 = 24
Easy.
Subtract the 15...divide that by 2...and I get...x = 9
Alright. Next one.
5y + 3x...I wish we would hold hands again.
His hand felt nice.
Wait, what am I doing.
I have to focus...stop thinking about that night.
5y + 3...I wonder if I could sneak holding his hand during drama class...
Focus!
Ok, I'll just come back to this one.
46 = 7x...
My mind kept on trailing back to that night. The night with him. The guy I used to have a thing with until I lost interest in. He still liked me.
We were next to each other backstage before the last scene until intermission.
"Give me your hand," i had said.
"What?" "Give me your hand."
Focus!
46 = 7x
Divide by 7...he gave me his hand...
I had so many butterflies in my stomach...the moment was there for like 3 or 4 seconds until...
Gabby! Focus!
Ugh, ok.
I had finished the next 5 or so problems without distraction.
But then I thought about her.
The girl I liked but I never told anyone. Accept for a few others...
She didn't know
And I intended to keep it that way
I didn't want to lose her
Anyway, back to math.
If a = 6 and b = 5 what is c?
3a - 2b = c
Multiply by 2...by 3...subtracting......
Ugh! My mind would get off her!
Her voice...seeing her walk down the hallways...
Only a few more questions to go!
Then you can think about her and him and the others as much as you want!
Sigh. Ok.
I had finished the test and when I pulled up my sleeve I remembered.
I covered the scars so nobody would know what I was looking at.
I felt light-headed.
