It was raining... Hard. The sky was dark, and it was only 12 in the afternoon. My heart was pounding looking out at the sky. I hated storms. They always reminded me of that childhood memory that won't stop playing in my head. It wasn't the storm that I hated. It was the rain. The rain always made me feel so lost, then again, replaying that day made me feel lost. Because today has marked eleven years since that tragic day. I really hate thinking about it. But to make it even better, it's raining outside.
I lay back on my bed, running my fingers through my dog Penny's hair. She lay curled up, eyes closed, and breathing gently. She was my best friend through storms. I had other friends, but when I needed comfort I wouldn't let them drive to my house if it was raining. It was some sort of fear that I had.
Penny breathed out heavily. I look down at her precious little face. She was so adorbale. I rub her head, feeling the little hairs intertwine with my fingers. Her white fur was a little dingy since I haven't given her a bath in about a month. Her fur began to shed on my black comforter. I attempt to wipe it off, but I realized it was no use. Penny usually lives in my room. She has her fid and water in the corner of my room; along with her doggie bed she never sleeps in.
I decided to lay her bathroom pads out because it was wet outside. She won't go in the yard, so I laid her pad out. I trained her to use the bathroom on the pad while she is in the house. She was quite a smart dog. When Zany comes over, we usually go take her on walks through the city park. She loves it out there. Especially when we take the Forrest trail. She barks at the squirrles, and other dogs. She is such an idiot.
My buzzing phone on my night stand disturbs my thoughts. I look over, and my caller I.D. shows that dad was calling.
Hello? I answer.
Hey hun. I'm gonna pick up something quick. What do you have in mind? He asks tiredly. His voice was low and gruff.
It's whatever you want, dad. I reply. He sighs through the phone.
Honey, I chose last time. You know the deal. Whatever you want, I'll pick it up. He insists. I roll my eyes with a grin. I was spoiled to death.
Umm... well... I'm kinda in the mood for a burger...
Okay. Cheeseburger, right? He asks.
Mhmm.
Okay. Well, I'll get it. I'll see you in a few. Love you, sweetie.
He ended the call, leaving the room silent the way it was. Light thunder could be heard in the distance, causing my peace to become slightly unrecognized. I pick up my phone, tapping out a text to Zayn asking if he wanted to come over when the storm was over. He replied quickly with a Yes. I asked him ask the other boys if they wanted to hang.
*****************************************It was about nine thirty when Zayn, Liam, and Niall showed. The rain had died down, and the air was cool. My bedroom window was cracked slightly while Zayn smoked a cigarette.
All of us sat in the room, watching a re-run of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Penny was laying on Liam's lap snoring. Niall had his head laid on my lap. Zayn still sat by the window smoking his cigarette. I was cool with it because my dad smoked. I was used to the smell.
"Can I get a drink of your coke?" Niall asks, looking up at me. I reach for my drink on my night stand, handing it to him. He sits up slightly, taking a drink. "Thanks." He spoke, handing it back to me.
"You're welcome." I speak gently, placing it back on the night stand.
I look back at Zayn, who was looking out the window at the wet yard. He was thinking about something. He didn't seem to excited when he came over. He usually stares off at nothing when he thinks. I reach back, and rub my hand on his arm. He hesitantly looks back, with a gentle smile.
"You alright?" I ask. He furrows his eyes per own nodding.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He asks. I shrug.
"You look upset."
"I'm good." He chuckles. He flicks his cigarette out the window. He moves closer to me, laying his head on my shoulder. Zayn let out a deep breath.
"Did you finish that homework for Mrs. Comer?" He asks.
"Yeah." I reply.
"Can I get it? I didn't understand any of it."
"Stop falling asleep in class." I chuckle.
"I can't help it. Her class is extremely boring."
"It's in my bag. Get it when you leave."
"Umm... I was planning on staying the night. Mom went out with her boyfriend tonight. And I don't wanna be home with my sisters." He complains. I laugh gently.
"Get off of me." I demand joking. He groans, moving his head off my shoulder.
"Are you staying the night to?"I ask Niall.
"If you want me to." He replies.
"Is Liam staying?"
"I think so." He nods, keeping his eyes glued to the T.V.
"Well I have to work tomorrow at nine. Yall can leave when you want." I add.
"I mean, we don't have to stay." Zayn spoke up.
"Nah, it's cool." I shake my head. "I need company anyways." I sigh. They knew the reason why I need company.
"Well, tonight, we're going to celebrate." Liam spoke up. He must have been listening to the conversation while he was on the floor. He looks up at us, looking for an answer.
"How, Liam?" I ask, amused by his suggestion. He then looks like he stopped thinking.
"You know... I don't know. "
"See? All I want is cuddles tonight." I imply.
"Done deal." Niall smirks, flirting. I swat his arm gently. He was such a flirt. He literally cannot keep a girlfriend. Niall and I once tried dating. It wasn't about him flirting it was just because I couldn't be in a relationship with my best friend.
"How are we all going to cuddle in your bed, Anna?" Liam asks. Zayn agrees as well.
"We're gonna cuddle. I'll turn the air conditioning really low so we won't get hot." I imply.
"Or how about we all go to the guest room. The bed is way bigger." Niall adds, which he was correct. The guest room had a kind sized bed.
"Sounds cool." I reply.
