There was copious amounts of banging on the door. After finding a flashlight, Soul hurried over to the foyer to see what all the noise was about. He creaked opened the door partially, and cast a flashlight on the figures in the hallway. He was surprised to find Blackstar, Tsubaki, Kid, Patti, and Liz staring back at him, squinting in the light of the LED lantern. Tsubaki had a crank flashlight to see, and Kid had two lit candles in each hand, each burning symmetrically. Blackstar was bouncing off the hall walls, quite literally.
"WE CAME TO SLEEPOVER, SOUL! OUR ROOF WAS LEAKING AND KID'S HOUSE WAS ON FIRE!" Blackstar shouted, waking the whole building. He continued jumping from wall to wall like a spider. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This kid was maniacal.
"Shut up, Blackstar." Kid deadpanned. Soul looked back at Maka with a questioning look, as if to say, "Should we let them in?" He was apprehensive, knowing Maka was definitely not in the mood for company given her anxious state.
Maka hesitated before nodding to him, and Soul widened the door just enough to let them all inside. Blackstar ran in and jumped on the coffee table.
"Let's do something fun! I've never been to a sleepover!! My parents never let me go over to anyone's house when I was younger! I HAVE NO IDEA WHY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Tsubaki tugged on his pant leg and told him to settle down. Blackstar, after spending a few more seconds (or minutes) laughing like a lunatic, came down and sat on the floor and Tsubaki sat next to him. He was still jittering, shaking in excitement. New experiences invigorated him, and with the threat of the dangerous storm his adrenaline was through the roof. Tsubaki just sat smiling, slightly irritated but willing to brush Blackstar's obnoxious behavior off as excitement.
Kid sat on the couch next to Soul, and Liz and Patti positioned themselves on the extra chairs. Maka remained in the corner, reading somewhat halfheartedly and trying to remain stoic and nonchalant. "So you guys want to stay the night?" She murmured.
"Well my house is currently up in flames," Kid stated, "So I'd be very grateful for your hospitality."
Maka nodded and did a half smile, before the room erupted in conversation. There was talk of the storm, classes, and other miscellaneous topics. Once everything slowed down, Tsubaki made a suggestion.
"So party games... I guess we need some way to pass the time." She smiled. "We could play truth or dare, or board games—" Tsubaki was cut off by Blackstar, unable to contain his excitement.
"TRUTH OR DARE!!!!! I LOVE THAT GAME. YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"
"Okay, I guess we're playing truth or dare," Soul said. "Who's first?"
It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. everyone liked the game Truth or Dare, but it was more fun to ask someone to do a dare than to participate in one yourself. So Maka, being brave and also just wanting to get the ball rolling, sighed as she put her book to the side.
"I guess I'll be first," she croaked from the corner."Okay, Maka truth or dare?" Liz asked.
"I don't care."
"Alright. Who do you like?"
Maka blushed profusely. "Next question."
"You said you didn't care, Maka. Answer!"
"What are we in, middle school? No, absolutely not."
"Fine," Liz sighed dramatically, thinking of another question. "Maka, I dare you to kiss someone in the room."
Maka looked deadpan at Liz. "No."
"Come on, Maka, you already skipped one. Just do it." Liz whined.
Maka shuffled slowly to stand, and looked to her right. The closest people were on the couch, and they were Soul and Kid. She wanted to stay in her corner still, crossing the room to kiss one of her other good friends on the head was too scary for her, especially since some of her friends were near the windows, the windows where lightning could strike at any time. No thanks. Maka sighed, put a small peck on Soul's head (ow, spikey), and flopped back down. She was keenly unaware of the blush that spread across Soul's face ever so lightly. Liz laughed, and Blackstar made an "oooooh" noise just for effect.
"Okay, Drop it." Maka chuckled, lightening up. "Kid, truth or dare?"
"Dare. Obviously."
"I dare you to make your hair asymmetrical."
"Ah!" He physically cringed. "Maka, how... how could you...? My hair is always perfect! I keep it straight even as I sleep. Maka, please don't do this to me!"
Maka just stared back, unrelenting. Kid complied, wanting to be a team player, and also not wanting to seem weak.
Tears streamed down Kid's face as he ruffled his hair messily. This was pure torture for Kid. He always kept his hair straight and symmetrical, but now it was sticking up in all different directions. He left his hair gel at home he realized, meaning his hair would be slightly off the rest of the night. Realizing this, he gasped and desperately tried to fix it. Perhaps Maka had gone too hard, but that's what truth or dare was all about.
After about half an hour of truth or dare, Blackstar was wearing lipstick, Patti was dressed in one of Soul's suits, Liz cut her nails (a travesty almost equivalent to the ruffling of Kid's hair), and Tsubaki put on a pair of high heels that she surprisingly pulled off.
The storm was still going strong, but the group was having too much fun to notice except for Maka. She saw a lightening strike hit the ground, and was wary of what could happen. Tsubaki noticed Maka's demeanor, and scooted over to her.
"Is everything alright?" She asked warmly, "You seem worried."
Maka, holding back a whimper as more thunder roared, flinched. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just a little tired is all." She plastered on a fake smile, but Tsubaki knew Maka wasn't telling the whole truth.
"Alright," She said, unconvinced. "Maybe you just need another distraction. Let's play another game."
