Jocelyn

It snowed that night, about an inch of snow.

I texted Mia.

Jocelyn: Did you see the snow?

Mia: DUH, but it's only an inch :-( not enough for more ski season....wish we would've gotten like, a foot

Jocelyn: ugh, it's March. We shouldn't have snow

Mia: actually, we should. March is still cold enough for snow

Jocelyn: I still say we shouldn't have snow

The conversation traveled to many other subjects, and we eventually stopped, at 1 in the morning.

And know I'm back at school for for an art and crafts show I volunteered to help with. Madelyn, Mia, and Ellie are here too, but I don't know where the heck they are, just that they left me in charge of the food stand.

It's set at the far corner of the gymnasium. Four tables that show food. A cash register sits right next to me. Me, I get to stand. Yay!

Ugh, I'm so tired. Stupid Mia. Keeping me up late. I'll sooo get her later for this.

"Excuse me?"

I look down over the counter to find a boy that's maybe 7, 8?

"Yes?" I ask.

He holds up a five dollar bill. "Can I have something?"

"Aww. Of course. What do ya want?"

He looks at the display of food we have set out.

Dorritos, Cheetos, Lay's chips, Chex Mix. Reeses Cups, Kit Kats, Nerds, and other super healthy food like that.

"Ummm.........." His blue eyes skim over the food.

"Henry!" Someone calls from behind the kid.

A teenage boy comes running at us. He's tall, with light ash brown hair and pale blue eyes, and paler skin. He has a squareish jaw. He looks good in jeans and a purple hoodie jacket.

He reaches us. "Henry! Don't run off like that." The boy looks at where the kid, Henry, is, and looks back at him. "It told you we'd get food in a minute. I just had to buy something for Mom."

"But I WANT food!" Henry protests.

"Henry-"

The little kid starts crying.

"Fine! Fine. You can get some food. What do you want?"

I almost laugh at the teenage boy's inability to babysit this kid.

Henry looks at me. "What's your name?"

"Jocelyn." I answer. This kid is taking me by the heart. He's so adorable.

"Jocelyn," Henry says, puffing out his chest and acting all buisness like. I almost laugh again. "I'd like some Nerds. Please." He hands me the 5 dollar bill.

I give him the large box of nerds, and his eyes widen in excitement. I hand the older boy four dollars for his change.

Henry walks a few feet away from the table, and opens his box of Nerds.

The boy holds out his hand. "Colton."

I reach out and shake it.

"Do you go to this school?" He asks, pulling his hand away and stuffing both in his pockets.
