Left duck. Roll right. Back flip. Side step. Backward somersault. Jump. Slide. Aim. Fire.
My mind may not have been able to remember how to fight, but my body sure did. Eight of the monstrous beasts had rushed me. When they reached me my mind froze up in shock. Had my body been caught in that same shock I would be dead already. Thankfully though, I reflexively dodged in between the huge claws they raked through the air in an effort to render me in half.
I felt like an acrobat with all of the bending, flipping, and spinning.
It was hard for my mind to consciously keep up with the lighting fluid movements my body made. Either these monsters were really slow or I was really fast.
It was insanely weird to have my body do what I wanted it to before my mind actually realized what I wanted. I ducked and weaved in between their attacks, shooting them as I did. Though, it seemed that the lead bullets I fired at them had no effect whatsoever other than pissing them off even more.My eyes widened as, in the limbo-like movement of a back flip, one of the creatures giant claws swung by my upper torso, missing my face by mere centimeters. It swung again as I continued my back flip and when my hands connected with the ground and my feet left, I felt the wind rush along my back, telling me that, had the monster been able to reach any further, I would have been cut in two. So I kept going, back flip over back flip, until I had finally put some distance between me and my attackers. Which was a good thing because it gave me the few seconds I needed for my mind to catch up and reload my pistols.
'I'm starting to get the hang of this.' I thought. Their glowing red eyes focused on me. The biggest one, which I assumed to be the Alpha of the pack, charged, cutting me off from my momentary respite.
'Shooting them doesn't do hardly anything so how am I supposed to..' I thought as I looked down at my pistols and noticed the blades protruding from the barrels.
"Oh, right."The Alpha reached me and raised its right arm to strike, but it was far to slow. I stepped into its reach and slashed across its torso with my bayonets, firing my pistols the whole length of the cut at point blank range. Unsurprisingly it didn't go down, swiping again at me with its deadly claws.
Though, it was surprised when I didn't dodge, but blocked its claws with my bayonets. I pushed its arm back with my right bayonet and spun around, embedding my left bayonet in the center of its chest. I pulled the trigger and fired directly into its chest, repeatedly, until I heard the clicking sound that meant I was out of ammo.
Dazed and in pain the beast clutched at its wound and let out an ear splitting howl that was cut off as I brought my right pistol around and slashed it deeply across the neck with the blade.
I watched as it's body slumped to the ground and immediately began to disintegrate. The rest of the pack got down on all fours and growled, their ears lowered at the sight of their rapidly decomposing leader. There were about twenty or thirty of them now. Several other similarly demonic creatures had been attracted by the fighting. Three of them were huge, and had the same bone-like protrusions and masks as the others, but these had the build of a bear. There were others too, a boar like creature had shown up in the rapidly growing horde as well.
My bad luck seemed to hold steady as every one of them focused on me as their sole prey. I lost my sense of direction in the flurry of attacks that I barely dodged. I jumped off the back of one of the wolves only for one of the bear-like creatures to take a swipe at me in mid air. The blow connected and I was thrown into the nearest tree like a rag doll. Thankfully though, its claws had not cut me or I would be in ribbons right now.
"Oww." I hissed after I stood back up on my feet from the monsters devastating blow. The bear that had hit me let out an ungodly roar and I took the opportunity to grab one of my pistols and fire at its mouth.
By chance my hand had gone to the holster on my upper right thigh which contained the stocky pistol. When I fired, my arm flew behind my head from the massive recoil of the weapon, but once again it seemed as though my body knew exactly what to do. My legs, torso and wrist tensed up while my elbow and shoulder relaxed, absorbing the recoil and letting my wrist fly directly over my shoulder in a controlled movement, making the shot as accurate as possible. The roar of the beast was abruptly cut off as the explosive sailed halfway down its throat and discharged. Several shards of shrapnel actually broke through its flesh, lightly damaging those closest to it. It immediately began disintegrating just as the Alpha had before.
Then before any other beasts could engage me, the boar-like creature curled up into a ball, like an armadillo, and started rolling rapidly in my direction. I grabbed the bayonet pistols and fired at it to no avail. It was rolling so quickly that the bullets just bounced off the bone plates that protected its body like a shield.
I threw myself sideways at the last possible second to avoid it. Before I could recover however, I had to immediately duck the deadly claws of one of the demon wolves that had come up behind me. Before it could regain its balance I spun around and stepped up to it, delivering a slash across the base of its throat, then I proceeded to roll over its back, delivering two cuts to the back of its throat as I went. I practically decapitated the monster. Though, I didn't even have time to make sure it had started disintegrating before the boar charged again."Okay. Lets try something different this time," I muttered as I reached for one of the rope-like weapons I had found earlier along with everything else in my small arsenal. The words rope dart popped into my head, giving me a name for the unusual weapon.
Once the boar was about ten feet away, instead if throwing myself to the side like last time, I jumped straight up. I put every ounce of power I had into the jump and shocked myself when I cleared at least eight feet. The boar rolled right through the spot I had been standing and I turned my super jump into a front flip so that I had a clear shot at the beast from straight above. In the space of a heart beat I threw the rope dart ,and the deadly barb embedded itself into one of the beasts bone plates and stuck. The boar didn't even notice and kept going, unable to stop its momentum.
The more it rolled the more the beast tangled itself up in the rope, and just before the slack ran out I yanked back with all I could. What happened next reminded me briefly of a yo-yo. The boar kept rolling forwards but with no more slack to use up the boar left the ground, flipped over and landed on its back. It struggled for a moment, its four short stubby legs flailing in the air, attempting in vain to flip itself over.I didn't hesitate to put three rounds into the soft under flesh of its belly, which had been previously protected when the beast had curled its body up to roll.
"That worked surprisingly well" I congratulated myself before noticing that there were still nearly twenty monsters surrounding me.
"Right," I cursed scanning the demon like creatures.
"They really do look like they're straight out of the gates of hell." I muttered.'If I die here... I wonder which one of these monsters will be the one to do me in?' It was an absurd thought, but I felt a wave of adrenaline rush through my veins at the slim odds of survival. I wanted to test those odds.
'I bet I could kill all of them without even getting a scratch,' I thought, a sinister smirk playing out on my lips. My voices of reason and sanity were no where to be found.
It felt familiar too. That terrified me. I didn't know how to feel about it. On one hand if I had lead a life before I lost my memory, then I may have been like this. On the other hand I may not have been like this at all and losing my memories had just really screwed me up. And not knowing which was which terrified me.
'Was I a bad person before? Or was I not? What am I supposed to be now?'
Before I could ponder the feeling any longer I heard a sound that I seriously did not expect.Gunfire. There were people here now, and they had appeared out of nowhere. They tore through the demonic creatures like they were butter. From about fifty feet they were making their way towards me.
The rush I had felt only seconds ago faded and I shook myself out of the insanity that had temporarily taken ahold of me. I focused on the new arrivals only to see that they were girls, four of them, all younger than me too.
'Red, White, Black, and Yellow.'
