Jess's POV"Let me go!" I scream at the man who, right now, has pinned me to the wall. He's tall, dark skinned and is wearing a leather jacket. I look to my left and see my best friend Sam being done the same thing. "Jess!" She yells as the other man slaps her, knocking her unconscious. I struggled to get out of the man's grasp but it was no use. He was too strong. He smacked me multiple times, trying to knock me out but I fought to stay awake. I could feel drops of my blood rolling down the side of my head. He smacked me again and I started to see dark spots. "I'm sorry," was all I heard him whisper before I plunged into darkness. Unsure if I would ever wake up again.
(Later on)
I wake up to the sound of machines peeping and unfamiliar voices. I slowly open my eyes one at a time. I am strapped to a cold metal table. The table's texture sends shivers down my spine. I look down at my clothes. My original jeans, T-shirt and black converse outfit is gone but in their place was a long white gown. I lick my dry lips and the taste of blood filled my mouth. I look up, feeling dazed. There are people in white coats standing in the corner of the room, talking. I can't hear what they're talking about. One of them looks in my direction. He has a rather kind face. Dark blue eyes and blonde greying hair. "She's awake." He announces to the other people who I am starting to think were doctors. The rest of the doctors look at me. The kind faced doctor walks over to me. "Hi Jess." He greets warmly. How does he know my name? "Only my friends are allowed to call me that." I say coldly. "Fine. You can call me Doctor Sage." He replies gesturing to his name tag. I don't move a muscle. Not that I would if I wanted to. "Why did you bring me here," I ask, "where is here?" He doesn't respond. He clears his throat and looks to the other doctors, asking for help. "How are you feeling?" Another doctor asks, changing the subject and not answering my question. "I'm fine." I reply. "You don't look fine. Let me take care of that bleeding lip." She offers. I shake my head, refusing. "I want to know why I'm here," I scream, "I want to go home!" Tears sting my eyes, threatening to come out. The doctors don't make eye contact with me. "All will be explained," was all Doctor Sage could muster. I struggle against the straps holding down my hands and feet. "I wanna go home!" I scream again, hot tears rolling down my cheek. I scream and scream, hoping that they would let me go. "Please," I whisper, my voice now almost entirely gone. My throat burns and feels swollen. "I'm sorry, we can't do that." Doctor Sage tells me. He gestures to the door and him and the other doctors walk out. Moments later, the lights go out plunging me into darkness again. I lay awake replaying Doctor Sage's words. "All will be explained." I say, falling asleep. Just as I start closing my eyes, the door opens and the lights come back on. A very handsome boy is standing in the doorway.
Chris's POV
Its been exactly five hours since I've been taken to this strange place. It's been exactly five hours since two men came to get me and my brother, Josh. They beat us up and brought us to this place. They stripped us down and put white gowns on us. They forcefully pulled my brother and I apart and strapped me to this metal table and that's where I've been ever since. That was exactly five hours ago. Suddenly, I hear screaming, snapping me out of my thoughts. Its a girl scream. I don't know why but I feel drawn to that scream. I had to see her, comfort her, protect her. I try desperately to get out of my restraints but to no avail. Beads of sweat form on my forehead. Then, the screaming ceases. I hear a door slam and the sound of feet approaching my room. I struggle to loosen the straps but they wont budge. My door opens and about five doctors walk in. "Hello Chris." A kind faced doctor greets. How does he know my name? "What did you do to her?" I ask him abruptly, just as surprised by the words that came out of my mouth as he is. He chuckles. "You heard that?" He asks and I nod. "I heard her screams. What did you do to her?" He sits at the edge of my cold metal table. "We didn't do anything to her. She was just having a panic attack." I nod, not believing him. "Why did you bring me here? I haven't done anything wrong, even without my-" The doctor put his hand up to silence me. He smiles. "All will be explained." He replied with a sigh. I can tell he wants to say more. He gets up to leave the room. When he starts to turn the door nob, I ask him something I had been wanting to ask since the moment he walked in, "C- can I have permission to see her?" I ask and bite my lip nervously. The doctor taps his chin pondering the thought. "Permission granted." He replies. If I weren't strapped down I would have jumped for joy. "Thank you, doctor." I say. He smiles. "Please, call me Sage," was the last thing he said before leaving the room. The rest of the doctors smile at me and leave the room. "Wait.... Wait! Where are you going? You forgot to untie me!" I yell at them but they are already gone. I flush a little. Then, the man that beat me up walks in. He stands next to the door for a while and just stares at me. I tense up. He walks closer to me and I close my eyes. I hear the sound of something being pulled and tugged at and immediately think he's pulling my limbs off. I feel my straps loosen and open my eyes. He untied me. I sit up. I thank him and he nods and gestures for me to stand up. I do as I am told. The cold tiles make me shiver. We walk out of my room and down the hall. He opens a door and turns on the lights. I step inside. I am awestruck by what I see. I gulp. I am looking at the most beautiful girl in the world. She has long black hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She is strapped down to a table too. I walk over and undo her straps. She remains silent. Can she talk? "Thank you." She thanks and I feel my heart take flight. Her throat is swollen and her voice is raspy. Probably from all the screaming. The man that beat who me up walks in and the girl curls up into a ball. "Get away," she yells, "get away from me!" I put my hands up to silence her. "Its okay, he won't hurt you. I promise." She sits more naturally and stares at me. "What's your name?" She finally asks. "Chris." I reply and she smiles. "Your accent is very strange. I can tell you're foreign. Where are you from?" I smile back. "Australia." She gasps. "Really?" She asks. I nod. "What's your name?" I ask. "Jess." She replies and puts her hand out to shake mine. I don't return the gesture. She looks at me confused and I show her my cut up hands. She puts her hand down. I sit on the metal table next to her. At first we sit in silence. Then I realize her busted lip. "What, happened to your lip?" I ask concerned. "I got smacked." She replies simply. I nod. She looks at the floor and sighs. "Do you why we're here," she asks, "I tried to ask the doctor but he wouldn't tell me." I shake my head and I see her slump. Before we can say another word, a voice that didn't belong to her or me fills the room. "Everyone get back to your rooms, I repeat get back to your rooms." The man who beat me up, looks at me and I know what that means. "I'll see you later." I tell her.
"Promise?"
Could I promise something so uncertain?
"Promise."
