****Jordan's P.O.V.****

"Jordan, you have a letter!" Mum called up the stairs.

I finished brushing my long blonde hair and hopped downstairs, careful not to slip on the freshly waxed stairs. Who would send me a letter? I thought.

Once I reached the bottom, I walked into the kitchen to see my mum, wide-eyed, reading a letter. "Mum!" I whined, "what if that letter was private?"

"It wasn't. Y-your letter came, Jordan. Your father, he-"

"I don't care what he did Mum. He left us." I responded, my voice bitter.

"It's not about what he did, Jo. It's about what he was."

"A jerk? A hypocrite?" I smiled sarcastically.

"He was a wizard." She continued on as if she hadn't heard me. "You actually look a lot like him. Sharp features. Blue-grey eyes, though his were mostly grey. After he left, I had you. He doesn't know about you, and I thought it best to keep you a secret. He turned. . . bitter after a while, like he was bored of me. He held a lot against non-magic folk like me - a muggle."

I nodded, confused. "Mum, what do you mean, my letter?"

"Your Hogwarts letter. You're going to a magic school, a boarding school." She looked down, sad.

"Mum, I-"

"It's fine, don't apologize. I have to go on a month-long business trip, anyways. You'll be staying at Amara's house." I nodded, still a bit sad.

Amara was my best friend, and now I get to have the oh-so-fun task of telling my feisty best friend that I'm leaving for nine months. Knowing Amara, she'll kill me, completely forgetting every single time I've helped her.

I walked up to her brick house, about twenty paces from mine, and knocked on her fancy door. Her parents were rich, and very, very strict. When I was there, they would most likely be talking about 'purebloods' and 'blood-traitors' and such. Or maybe they're just really into fiction.

"Lils - Lils. In case you haven't noticed, I really don't care about Potter or his little gang." Amara's voice drifted out through her open window.

She must've seen me coming, because she came up to me and opened the door, still ranting to a girl with fiery red hair, who I guess was 'Lils'. "Jor, it's been forever! What're you here for; I thought you were spending time with your mum?" She beamed at me.

"She's on a business trip in the States. Didn't she tell you I'd be staying here?"

"Right! Er - do you know how long you'll be staying? I'm due to leave in September." She questioned.

I looked at her oddly. "I thought your school started in October?" She'd been going to the same boarding school since she turned eleven, for four years now.

"New school - Lily's going there too."

The redhead sent me a smile. "I'm Lily Evans, by the way. Are you going too?"

"Oh, Jordan's not-"

"I've been invited to one," I cut Amara off, "but I'm not sure it's the same one. What's yours called?"

"Hogwarts."

"Amara!" Lily hissed, "what if she's a muggle?"

"Then I probably wouldn't know what muggle meant." I interjected, smiling. They squealed, pulling me inside the oversized house, rambling on about how fascinating Hogwarts was.
