Chapter II

Everything in Mystic Lake was Weird

Liam hadn't even enter the door when a perky girl covered in clown makeup burst through the door and was all up in his face.

"Hi! You must be new! I'm Nicki and I volunteered to be your tour guide! Now at first I was like 'Ughh! Why did I agree to this?! This is going to be so dull!' but looking at you! I'm so glad I volunteered! Well, I didn't actually volunteer, I did it ‘cause I need extra credit for a class. I mean can you really blame me for skipping? School's not cool. Haha, that rhymed! Anyway we should hang out some-"

"Nicki, shut the fuck up and leave the poor kid alone. Go flirt with a freshman or something. I can show the bloke around."

"Oh, kiss my ass Jackson."

"Nooo, thank you. That thing's been used way too much."

Nicki just flipped him the bird before disappearing into the parking lot, her cheerleading skirt swaying dramatically. Liam look back at Jackson, hoping his face showed Jackson how grateful he was.

He must have ‘cause he gave a small smile and shrugged. "You can thank me by joining me in the cafeteria."

Liam gave him a wide grin before nodding.

.   .   .

Walking down the hall with everyone having their beady eyes focus on you isn't pleasant.

"Don't mind them. Not much happens around here. So you're definitely gonna be a hot topic for a while," Jackson said.

Of course nothing happens around here, it's the middle of freaking nowhere! Liam thought bitterly. Yeah, Liam wasn't exactly please to be living here. Liam decided he wasn't going to be bitter this morning, he can mope later. Liam rested his attention back on Jackson and had a chance to study him.

First off, he was pale. He had black hair and he had a crooked smile. He had beautiful blue eyes that seem to sparkle. Liam was positive he could see those eyes even if it was pitch black. He also had an American accent, giving quickly away that he wasn’t from here.

A/N: Yes I chose Logan Lerman, no I have no shame.

"I'm gorgeous aren't I?" Jackson said, catching Liam’s studying eyes.

I blushed, averting my eyes. "Sorry."

"Haha, don't worry dude, to be honest with you, I'm not actually this cheeky. I'm all awkward and shy.”

Liam turned to look at him and it suddenly struck me that he did look like that, but Liam just couldn't wrap that version of him around his head after the last few minutes.

"Then why are you not?" Liam asked carefully, not wanting to be rude and offend the first person he.... befriended?

"Why am I not what?" Logan asked his eyebrows scrunching together in confusion.

"Being shy and awkward…" Liam said slowly moving his hands around.

Jackson seemed to be caught off guard before going into deep thought after a while he let out a defeated sigh.

"Honestly, I don't know. Looking at you, I can see you're the same and can you imagine that? The both of us being shy and awkward? We wouldn't even look at each other in the eyes! I think like one of us need to break the barrier if we're going to be friends. I-I mean i-if you want to be friends! ‘Cause I can totally understand if you-"
