It was almost one year since you attempted to commit suicide, two, since your break up with Taehyung, and 3, since the last time you were truly happy.
You thought that with time your memories of Taehyung would come back but each day of hope turned into weeks, and weeks into months. The hope that was there in the beginning had slowly turned into despair and along with despair, there was fear. Fear that you may never regain your memories of him, fear that you'll never truly be the same person you once were, fear that you'd only end up hurting yourself again.
Maybe it was selfish of you, maybe it's better to not remember Kim Taehyung. Maybe it's for the best to give up on remembering what you both once had, to continue your life as is because to be honest, for once, everything was actually pretty normal. You had good grades, your best friend was still Namjoon, and you didn't feel this aching pain that you know was once there; but with how hard Taehyung was trying, you couldn't find the courage to bring it up in the past few months. So you went along with it, wearing yourself out.
There was only a week until it was January again, and you couldn't do anything but stress. You knew Taehyung had planned something special to help you remember him, but deep down you knew that it was pointless. You had already made up your mind.
-One Week Later, the night of New Years' Eve-
Ring ring ring! You hear your phone go off, "Hello?"
"I'm outside!"
"Oh, alright. Coming~" you let out a sigh, the night that you were dreading of was finally here. With your mind set, you grab your coat and exit your apartment.
"Wow, you look stunning," Taehyung's mouth was wide open.
You couldn't help but let out a giggle at his facial expression. "Ahem, eyes up here," you hit him.
"Heh, sorry. New bra?"
"Taehyung!" you whined.
He chuckles, "Sorry, I know those comments make you uncomfortable."
"Yet you still say them?"
"Sorry, sorry, sorry," he laughs, "You know, Joon called me and tried to tag along."
"Ooo is he coming?"
"Hell no, why would he?"
"Oh, I thought this was going to be like the three of us? Didn't you say it was to help me with my memories?"
Taehyung sighs, "Uh, well yeah. But, I just thought, I don't know... maybe for once, we could both have a happy New Years' Eve.. you know' since the past two have been pretty bad.."
You look out the window feeling guilty, "Taehyung?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry..." you whispered.
"What was that?"
"Oh. Um where are we going?" you say in a cheerful tone.
"You'll see," he grins.
After driving for almost an hour, you notice that you guys were out of the city, entering the suburbs of New York. You yawned for the fifty seventh time, "Tae, where are we going??"
"So impatient," he laughs. "We're almost there, here," he hands you an eye mask.
"You want me to sleep?" you said.
He chuckles, "No. I want you to cover your eyes so that it's a surprise."
"I don't like surprises," you pout.
"Shh, just do as I say."
You stare at him in disapproval.
"Please?"
"Fine," frowning you put the eye mask on.
You were about to fall asleep when you feel the car stop, "Are we here?" you say in a sleepy voice.
"Yeah, hold on. Let me open the door for you!" Taehyung scrambles outside to help you.
After getting out of the car, he leads you a few feet into a nearby building that smelled delicious. Your stomach was screaming, you haven't ate anything all day due to your nerves. How to digest food when you couldn't even digest what was going on in your mind? Taehyung disturbs your thoughts when he says, "Okay! Are you ready?"
"Hm? Yeah, i'm ready."
"Okay," he lets out a breathe.
He takes your eye mask off slowly, and when your vision finally adjusts to the dim lighting, all you could do was stare in awe.
The walls were filled with roses from top to bottom in every shade of pink, red, and white. Candles were the only source of lighting, there was a humongous chocolate fountain in the middle of the room, and next to the fountain was a table for two.
You turn around to look at Taehyung, "Tae..." you were speechless.
He smiles at you, "I know... you don't like stuff like this and it's kind of cheesy, but I just thought, why not? You may not remember how much you meant to me, but (y/n), you mean this much to me," he gestures at the room.
You broke down, fuck. How could you possibly give up on this boy. He was trying so hard, you meant so much to him, how could you even dare to think about giving up on him. You felt guilty.
"Tae," you say while sobbing.
He pulls you into his chest, "Shh, it's okay. Let it out," he kisses your forehead.
You couldn't stop crying. What do you do now? You couldn't possibly give up on him now, but you were so exhausted from trying and trying and trying.
"Tae, i'm so so sorry."
He frowns, "Why?"
"I can't do this anymore.."
"Wha- what do you mean?" his eyes widen. "If this was too much, I'm sorry! I just wanted to surprise yo-"
"No. It's not this," You look around at the room, "this was beautiful, and i'm honestly so sorry that you went through all of the trouble to do this for me, but Taehyung, I'm just so tired."
"(Y/n), what are you saying? No, don't you remember what the doctor said? Don't give up. You can remem-"
"I think we should stop."
"I don't understand, do you not want to remember us anymore? That's fine. We can start anew? I'll make you fall in love with me again. This can work. Please tell me you want this as much as I do," his eyes were pleading.
"Tae, please. I just-"
Taehyung cuts you off, his voice breaks, "Do you not want me anymore?"
