I grabbed the last off my things, threw them in the moving truck, and hopped into my car. "Zoey, could you please buckle up Emily," my mom said from the front seat. I got out and buckled Emily up. Then I hopped back in the passenger seat, turning on my phone and plugging in my headphones.

I have always been the shy type, so I wasn't one to start a conversation. Not even with my mom. I texted my friend, Abigail, one last time before staring out the window. I doubt she would respond right away, seeing as how we were never really close. After all, I wasn't one to start conversations, so we never really hung out, unless it was school-related.

I sighed digging into my bag, looking for something to give my sister. I grabbed my tablet and handed it to her. She was turning four next month, so she would be starting school in September.

My mom got offered a job, much better than her current one, in July, and in one month, we're packing our bags and moving to California, all the way from New York. All I know is that I'm going to have to go shopping for some clothes because California has much different weather than New York. The only thing that is worse than that, is making new friends, which will definitely be hard, because I'm the nerdy girl who can't start a conversation-with anyone.

I checked the time and realized we had only been on the road for fifteen minutes. This was going to be a long drive- only stopping for pee and lunch breaks.

----------

I opened the car door, stepping out into the gas station parking lot. I stretched and then helped my sister get out. "I'm hungry," she said in a sleepy voice. "Honey, we all are," my mom said, locking the doors. We walked into the gas station and used the bathroom. When we were done, my mom bought us all glazed donuts. "Thanks mom," I said, taking a huge bite from my donut. "Mmm," I mumbled.

We got back into the car, ready to start the journey again. We had about five more hours before we got to California. To be more specific, Lodi, a small town in California. "Zoey?" I looked at my mom and pulled of my headphones. "Yeah," I said flatly.

"Can you take Emily to the store after we've moved into our house. She'll need some new clothes, and so will you."

"Yeah, sure," I mumbled, clearly not interested in having a conversation. I put my head phones back on, just as I heard my sister say my name. I pulled them off and turned around. "What?"

"Your tabwet went out the window," she said, pointing out the open window. "What!" I screeched. I looked out the window but saw nothing. "That cost four-hundred dollars," I grumbled, turning around. "I'm sure she didn't mean it. Don't worry, I'll buy you a new one."

"Mom, you can't. I'm not letting you spend that much on me, especially since you're the only one making money around here." My mom and dad got a divorce and he moved to Sweden, so yeah.

"And that's why your getting a job, young lady," she said, hastily, looking back at the road. "What, a job? I can't get a job, especially since I can't start a freaking conversation." As you can tell, I'm not one for swearing. "You are and that's final," she said, not looking at me. I sighed, knowing I couldn't win. This was going to be a great year, I thought, sarcastically.
