"Look at her," I hear a voice say, I keep my eyes on the ground as I walk, "Why is she such a loser," Once I heard that reference I realized they were speaking about me. I quckly look up when they walk towards me a little then stop.
"Hey you," The blonde girl in the middle spoke.
"Hey, she's talking to you," My head bolts up at the sudden realization of the girl on the far right's voice. Devyn,
"What." I spoke quietly, not making eye contact with Devyn.
"The freak is sassy I see." I quickly glance over to Devyn, as she says nothing. Then glance back at the girl in the middle.
"Yeah, and if I am? What are you going to do about it." I am not dealing with their crap this year, they've put me through hell the 7 years I've know them, not this year.
"I'll make you the most hated girl in school, how about that." She stepped decreasing the distance between us.
"It won't be much change. But one thing you should change is your breath, it's rank." I said stepping back.
She turned her back, "Does my breath really stink." She whispered to the others. One girl nodded, the others stayed still.
"You're going to think twice next time you talk to me, freak." She bumped shoulders with me, as she stomped away.
"I sure won't," I say back, walking the oposite direction towards the truck. I sit there for a moment, taking a deep breath. The truck starts up, and I start to drive home.
I park the truck across the street, and step out. I notice a black coat type clothing on the sidewalk a few feet from my path. I walk towards it,
"ehem," A man clears his throat, stepping up beside me.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know who's this was so I was going to put it somewhere else." I pause, "Is this yours?"
The man, more boyish I would say laughed. "Yes, yes it is. And what luck is it for me to have such a pretty girl find it for me." He nudged my arm,
I let out a loud out burst of a laugh. "Your not still talking to me right?"
"Of course I am, do you see anyone else around?" He asked.
"I don't think I've ever seen YOU around. Do you go to Greenville?"
"No, I'm home-schooled. I don't fit in well at public schools." He replied quickly.
"And why's that." I question, sitting down on the path to keep the conversation going.
"I'm almost, what you would say. Invisible to most people, I'm surprised you even saw me."
Now I'm confused. Completely lost, what is he talking about?
"You're confused aren't you."
How'd he know, I felt weird now. I felt as if he wasn't even human, or as if he was different like me.
"How'd you know." After all I had a blank face on, that didn't show any emotion.
"I just know. Well thanks for my jacket back, have a nice day----" He waited for me to say my name,
"Dalilah, and you are,"
"Samuel." He said then walked off,
I looked up to realize many people were staring at me like I was crazy. Why?
"Can I help you?" I sassed to one lady standing by the entrance of the path.
"The question is, can I help you young lady." She walked towards me,
"With?" I backed up.
"Well dear, you were just talking to yourself, let's start with that."
What did she mean "Talking to myself" I'm pretty sure I was talking to a person.
"No, I was just speaking with a boy about my age? Did you not see him, he just walked pass you." I pointed around the side of the hedge.
"There was no young man walking pass me. I saw you pick up a black coat, and hand it into thin air. It just kind of disappeared, and then continue talking to yourself." I was silent, what did this mean? This was confusing, it was hard to process in a moments time. "Are you alright dear?" She put her hand on my shoulder as I looked off to the ground.
"Y-y-yeah, I better g-get inside t-though. T-thanks," Scratching my head, I walk off wondering what had just happened. He seemed so real, and yet. Only I could see him? This isn't normal.
I sit through dinner, silently exchanging glares with Devyn now and then. After dinner, I head straight up to my room, and get some rest. Maybe that's it, maybe I was hallucinating because I'm tired. Yeah maybe that's it.
