I had to keep running. My lungs felt like they were gonna burst, every muscle in my body ached, my heart running as frantically as I was. I've tripped and nearly fell several times. I wanted nothing more than to stop, stop this quest. Courtny, Dawn, and myself, Violet, have accepted this stupid quest to find Hebe, the goddess of youth's, sacred Fountain of Youth, the very fountain many lives have been lost trying to find for millennia. This worthless quest was assigned by my father, the well loved (*cough* not *cough*) God of the Underworld, Hades. Apparently, my best friends, Cournty (who's dad is Posidon, god of the sea) and Dawn, (daughter of Zeus, lord of the sky and king of the gods) have also been given this quest. The three of us all have a strange past, our mothers are best friends, we have been born on the same day, same year, same month, same HOUR. Which, of course, kicked monster senses into overdrive. I mean, three daughters of the most powerful gods in the universe are born on the same day, DANG. I collide into something, a tree, which snapped me back to the present.
"Violet!" Dawn screams from somewhere to the left of me, now I spot her, her sky blue eyes filled with worry, her long, dark brown hair making a trail behind her. She looked no better than I did, with dirty clothes and a scraped up bloody face. Hey, don't laugh, you try traveling the country for ten days in a row, constantly getting attacked by monsters. Oh yeah, and in cause you're wondering WHY we're running, it's because we're being chased and hunted down by a hungry pack of hellhounds. Being a kid of Hades, I should be able to control them, and believe me, I tried, I put in enough energy to make even the most rambunctious and feisty hellhound keel to my knees, roll on it's back, and play dead. But these hellhounds, I could tell when someone or something was possessed, and this is one of these times. They were possessed by someone or something whose power was far greater than my own.
I keep running. I wonder if this is how a deer felt being hunted by a tiger.
"I think we lost them!" Cournty shouts to the right of me. We stop to catch our breath, what little I had left of it. My lungs and whole body ached, and my heart kept threatening to burst out of my chest. Courtney's green eyes flashed with fear, I followed her gaze.... And came face to face with a growling hellhound.
"'I think we lost them' huh?" I scold her.
"These are your pets, not mine, Ghost Girl,"
"Barnacle Head"
"Corpse Breath"
"Kelp Brain"
"GUYS!!!!! We got an actual problem here!!!!!" Dawn interrupts. I growl, I'll finish up with Courtny later. Then, to all of our surprise, the hellhound next to my face (it's breath smelled like rotting meat and gods know what else) raised its head high, it's bloodred eyes turning into a blinding white
"I will give you one last chance, half-bloods, join my army, bring down Olympus, and I shall spare your lives. Refuse, and, well, I do not think I will be able to hold back these hellhounds any longer" It was the voice of a woman's, it sounded as old and ancient as time itself. I knew that voice, I've heard it in my dreams, persuading me to turn against the gods, my family. Gaia, the Earth Mother. I could tell by the expressions of my friends face that they recognized it too.
"Look, we're just looking for the Fountain of Youth, then we'll be on our way. We don't know why you're hunting us. We promise we won't be any threat to you, right guys?" Dawn says
"Promise" Cournty confirmed
"Swear by anything and everything you hold sacred" I stat, making a cross-my-heart sign across my chest.
"You three hold great power, and so I give you this choice. Join me and bring down the Olympians, and I will give you anything you desire. Wealth, fame, anything. Refuse however, and you will not return from this quest alive." Man I hate riddles. So here we were, talking to Gaia the Hellhound, faced with an impossible decision. Betray our family, destroy the world and civilization as we know it, then obtain anything we desire. Or, stick up for our family, though they never done anything besides try to get us killed a lot lately, and end being ripped to shreds courtesy of a hungry pack of hellhounds. It was a lose-lose situation.
