It was a quiet day at the guild, as many of its members were out scouting or fighting. The only ones at the guild were the injured, and those visiting them. Laxus happened to be the former, Freed the latter. Evergreen and Bixlow were out scouting, leaving the boyfriends to their own devices.
"Shouldn't you be helping Ever and Bix?" Laxus asked Freed.
"They insisted they could do it alone." Freed replied. Freed was secretly happy that he had time to himself with his boyfriend, where he didn't have Ever or Bix teasing him.
"So they want an excuse to tease us?" Laxus said. "I see." His voice was slightly playful.
"They do well enough without an excuse" Freed smirked. "That reminds me."
Laxus looked quizzically at Freed as he pulled a small box out of his pocket and opened it. The ring was exquisite, and the diamond looked like it had lighting contained within.
"I know the timing is odd, but, would you like to spend out lives together. I, uh, bought this yesterday."
Laxus laughed and Freed turned red with embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, I must have moved too fast." Freed said quickly.
"No, that's not it. I had just... Nevermind, reach into the right pocket of my coat, please."
Freed complied. He found a green box in the pocket and handed it to Laxus.
Laxus opened it, to reveal a ring with a diamond with a green discoloration. It was the most beautiful thing Freed had ever seen. "Would you marry me?"
"Yes," Freed said happily, and then proceeded to stand up and kiss his fiancé.
Little did they know, this happiness would soon be stolen away...
