I was happy for Everly she was getting everything she deserved. Cayden seemed to be the perfect guy. At least that's what I figured from what I heard. I was thrilled for her but I had to admit that I was a little envious of what she was going to get with Cayden.
I decide that the only way to get out of this dejected mood I had found myself in all day was to explore. I figure that the best place to start would be talking a walk around the forest that surrounded Margaret's house. I had never been in a forest like this. Back where I lived there was rarely any snow and the definitely no big such as this anywhere near us. Most of the trees around the cities we lived had been killed to allow us to have more space for unneeded buildings.
I get up from the place I had been sitting on this whole day and put on the sweater I had been wearing for the last three days. I really need to ask Everly for some change of clothing. I go into the closet that contained my jacket. I also find mittens and a hat. I pull on the black boots and exit the house.
Instead of using the path that leads to town I decide to make my own path. I turn in the opposite direction and start walking, leaving tracks in the fresh snow. I look around myself and see snow glistening on the ground and in the trees. I had never seen anything this beautiful.
I continue to walk until I come upon a clearing where two children play in the snow. A girl and a boy around the age of ten. I watch as they play chasing each other shrieks emanating from the girl every time the boy catches her. Suddenly the girl trips over her feet and falls to the ground. She starts to cry and the boy runs over to her kneeling beside her. He holds her hand while he asks what's wrong. She whimpers a reply back and the boy searches around the clearing as if he's looking for someone. His eyes land on me and he beckons me over. I walk over and kneel beside the girl and boy.
"What hurts?" I ask the girl. She looks up at me and replies with a whimpered 'my foot'. I turn to the boy and see worry in his eyes. "Go get someone to help her. I'll stay here with her and make sure she stays safe while you're gone." The boy gets up and runs into the woods. I hope he comes back quickly.
I turn back to the girl she stares at me in wonder. "Who are you?" She ponders. There is still a slight quiver in her voice but she sounds a lot better now.
"My name is Ambria. I am here to help you and your friend just went to get someone to help you." I inform the girl and really hope she doesn't notice the shakiness in my voice. I don't know how I can help the girl and that scares me. Anything can happen out here and I wouldn't be able to do anything.
"My friends name is Kalem and my name is Paradox." Abruptly we hear someone thundering through the woods. The boy, Kalem comes crashing through followed by non-other than Orion. What is he doing here?
"What happened Paradox?" Orion exclaims. He doesn't seem to notice me kneeling by Paradox and comes and sits beside me. He picks up Paradox's foot and places it on his lap. She lets out a small whimper when he starts feeling her ankle. "I dont think its broken but you will definitely not be able to walk back home. You're going to be fine." Orion gets up and picks up Paradox and cradles her in his arms. They walk into the forest and Kalem and I follow behind them. "Kalem how could you let this happen to her?" Orion shouts back to us.
"I didn't mean to Orion it was an accident." Kalem replies with sincerity in his voice.
"Your were supposed to be watching her Kalem she's your little sister. You're supposed to protect her." Orion states frustrated with the younger boy. How do they even know each other?
"Orion you don't have to be so ruff with him they were just playing around and Paradox tripped over her own feet. She'll be fine you said so yourself." I intervene. I figured someone had to stand up for the boy and by the look of self loathing on his face he was not going to do it himself.
"Why are you even here? I thought you said you never wanted to see me again." He still remembers, of course he still remembers.
"I just wanted to make sure Paradox was okay. I'm sorry."
"Just go home Ambria." Orion retorts.
I decide to leave Orion alone with the kids. I truly hope that he will help them. I turn around and head back the way we came from. From there I followed my steps back to the house. About an hour had passed since I had left and Everly would still be on her date. I take off all my winter clothing so that I'm only left in the long sleeve shirt, pants and socks.
I walk Margaret's study to see if I can find a book that can give more information about teleporting. In the room there is a giant bookshelf with many books placed in alphabetic order by author's last name. I only find one book that struck my interest. It's a black leather bound notebook that seems to be a journal of some sort. Despite the fact that if I read it, it would be a disruption of privacy I have a feeling that I will be extremely important.
The first entry is dated to about a decade back. It is written by Margaret and is about another group of people who teleported back and forth between the two worlds. I continue to read, the journal documents everything that happened between the two guys. Suddenly the whole story takes a grim twist. The writing starts to become ominous and somber. On the last page I find the most ghastly entry. The entry terrifies me to no end and I know immediately that I need to inform Everly.
