Intro:
"Amanda, honey, wake up. School time," mom called me from downstairs. I entered the bathroom, got dressed in a pair of jeans and a pink t-shirt that had an 'I Love You Mom' writing. I rushed downstairs and hugged my mom tight. I was so short that I barely hugged my mom, I only hugged her waist. "Good morning mom," I said. "Morning sweetheart, oh you wore that pink t-shirt. You know how much I love that t-shirt," she said. I did indeed know how much she loved it.
She loved it because pink was her favorite color, and the 'I Love You Mom' writing made her feel that all that hard work of hers finally paid off. "Have your breakfast, honey," she told me sweetly a usual. Mom never screamed at me or ever forced me to do anything. And I was never a spoiled kid either! I had my breakfast and my mom walked me to school. I kissed her goodbye and ran to class.
That day the teacher told us, "Tomorrow is Parents Career Day, so make sure your parents come with you." At lunch time all my classmates and friends asked me to ask my dad to come; he is the most popular rock star in America, Jake Paccar. Although I wanted mom to come, not dad, but he is a rock star so it would've been really special.
I used to only see my dad like thrice a week as a MAXIMUM!!! My mom was my best friend, my loving mother, my superhero, and sometime she got the father's role covered too. She was certainly amazing! I went home that day and asked her if dad was coming that night and she said he was joining us for dinner.
I did my homework, watched TV, and took a snack. Other than I played pretend with mom, until dad was home. My dad was in a hurry and looked mad too. Mom was cooking dinner in the kitchen and I was waiting in front of dad expecting him to hold me up and give me a big daddy hug but NO!
He looked down at me then interrogated, "Where's your mom?" "She's in the kitchen, cooking our tasty dinner," I said, "I missed you daddy." "Yeah, I missed you too," he headed to the kitchen where mom was standing, "Hey, honey, could you please speed up the process, I have some work."
He sat on the small, three-chaired dining table in the kitchen. I ran up to my room crying. When mom finished preparing dinner, she called me but I won't return the call. She got worried and went upstairs, while dad was still swallowing up his food, he didn't even bother to know what was going on with his own daughter.
When mom opened the door, I looked up at her. She found tears filling my eyes, other tears were falling down my soft chubby cheeks. Mom ran to me and I explained why I was crying. It was all because of that 'dad' of mine, I barely see him and when I do he gives me such a careless look as if I'm not his daughter for God sake!
"Do you understand how precious these tears are?" She dried my tears, "They're diamonds, pearls, gems, jewels, they're priceless! Do you know how many people can be billionaires if they sell only 5 of those tears? Trillions! Come on, daddy is waiting downstairs, get up." She held my hand and we went downstairs slowly.
Dad was done with three fourths of his dish! Mom got really mad, I was crying because what he did to me and he's just eating?! I sat down and said, "Tomorrow is Parents Career Day, My friends would love to see you dad." I really hoped dad would say yes, because it's been a couple of years since we spent fun time together.
Dad was still gobbling up more food and said nothing, I bet he wasn't even listening. Mom initiated, "Jake, will you go with Amanda? It's a chance she knows you and your job even better, what do you think?" "I'm busy, I have 5 concerts in Tokyo tomorrow, I have to catch my plane early," he had no expression on his face.
"But she's your daughter, Jake, your flesh, your blood! You can reschedule this with your manager, Luke, and if you don't want to ask him I will. He did it before when his son had the same situation, remember or shall I remind you? Jake, go with her," mom was starting to get furious now. "Listen sweetie, I can't go with you, got it?" He directed it to me.
"But why dad? Why don't you do as mom said? Don't I deserve a little quality time from all that time you spend in front of people who scream and give you headaches? I started tearing. "NO! That's final! No more arguing, I'm out of here!" He threw the fork on his glass plate that it was just about to break.
There he left without apologizing, leaving me behind, HURT! "I'm sorry sweetheart, you know your dad can get pretty annoyed when you interfere his work, he's always tensed," mom told me sweetly, she made me forget why I was mad. "It's okay you're coming right?" I asked her.
She smiled, "Of course, I'm going to give an awesome presentation!" She hugged me tight. Mom was a housewife. I bet she'll describe it terrifically! She's my mommy, I thought. Next morning, I went downstairs and found my mom washing the dishes, "I'm ready mommy," I yelled from the living room. "So am I, dear, two more dishes to go!" Mom walked me to school.
She was great, and amazingly perfect, everyone clapped for her, they meant it! We went home together and had a blast at home! It was a good thing dad didn't come that day, I was still affected with that disappointment. That night I didn't want to sleep in my room. So mom took me next to her that night, I slept so safe and sound.
