{San Francisco, California}
Matt drove his car and stopped it. When he got out, he ran towards another police officer. The police had surrounded a tall building.
"What's the situation?" Matt asked.
"A girl, about to jump." the officer said. "Go see if you can talk her down."
Matt ran up the stairs to the roof of the building. There was a girl sitting on the edge of the roof.
"What kind of sound do you think I'll make when I hit the ground?" she asked Matt.
"You shouldn't be asking questions like that." Matt said.
"What if I don't hit the ground?" the girl asked. "What if I fly, like an angel?"
"I don't think you should try it." Matt said.
The kid looked at Matt. "What you don't know, sir, is that I already have." She threw herself off the edge. Matt ran to the edge and watched as the kid... flew. She had suddenly spouted white, feathery angel wings and was flying gracefully back up. When she flew back up, she stood n midair and faced Matt. "Sir, do you think I'm a freak?" she asked.
"I think you're amazing." Matt said without thought.
The girl landed softly on the roof and smiled. "Thank you, sir. That's exactly what I needed to hear."
The doors to the roof opened. A man walked out. He seemed to be in his thirties or something along those lines. He had a bag with him and a gun of types in his hand. It looked like something out of a steam punk comic book. He pointed it at the girl and shot it's knocking the girl down.
"What the hell?" Matt yelled. "What are you doing?"
"It's okay. She's only unconscious." the man said. He pulled an or out of his bag and threw it over the side of the building. When it hit the ground, it opened up and a huge flash occurred.
"Wait, what was that?" Matt asked.
"Nausea orb." the man said. "They'll remember what happened, but they'll think it was just a dream." He picked up the girl and slung her over his shoulder. "You, you could be useful. But, rules are rules." He threw a smaller orb onto the floor and left. The orb flashed.

{The Next Morning}
"Nothing ever happens anymore." said Matt's fellow policeman.
Matt sighed, and agreed. In his ten years in the force, Matthew Terrison could barely remember when something huge happened. Sure, robberies happen all the time, but those are so common and so minor. He really wished something big would happen, like a comic book supervillian trying to steal a priceless painting or something. Like that dream he had last night. The girl's wings were so... majestic. Why he would dream something like that confused him.
He looked out his window. It never really made sense to Matt why his office was on the fifth floor, but he never really cared. He looked down on the people on the streets. Just going about their daily lives.
Matt looked at his desk, and heard a tapping sound. He looked around for the source and couldn't find it. He looked back outside the window and found the source - a girl. She was tapping on the window. On the fifth floor. But the real kicker were the angel wings on her back helping her stay in the air.
"It wasn't a dream." Matt muttered. He opened the window, and closed it as the girl flew in. She stood on the floor and her wings disappeared.
"I was looking for you!" the girl said. "That mean man tried to take me somewhere. I woke up and got away, but he still might be after me."
"Who?" Matt asked. "Wait, what? I thought it was a dream."
"That must've been his doing." the girl said. "Oh, no! I just thought of that! You were there! He must know that. You're be the first person he'll go to."
"Why couldn't you go to your parents?" Matt asked.
"They... didn't take Mindy to my gift." the girl said.
Matt thought about this. "Fine. I'll help you. I'll see if I can get you to my place. I don-t know what to do from there."
"Thank you, sir." the girl said.
"My name's Mathew Terrison." Matt said.
"I am Terra." the girl said.

{Terrison's Place}
Terra ran in quickly, and Matt closed the front door. He didn't see anything suspicious, but he had to be careful. Who knows what this man works for.
"So when did you find out you could do this?" Matt asked, moving to the kitchen to start cooking something.
"I didn't find out,' it just happened." Terra said. "One day, I woke up and I had wings."
"So, where are your wings?" Matt asked. "I don't see them."
"I can tuck them in between my clothes. That's what these slit in my shirt are for." Terra said, showing Matt the back of her shirt. Matt could barely see them, but there were small slits there. "I did this to all of the clothes I was able to grab."
"Able to grab?" Matt asked.
"My parents." Terra said. "They kicked me out. I only had enough time to get a bag-full of clothes. I hid them in Ann alley somewhere." She sat down at the table and looked around. She noticed something - a picture. It was on the wall, with Matt smiling with some woman. "What's that?" she asked.
Matt looked at the picture. "That's... my wife." he said.
"Oh. Where is she?" Terra asked. When Matt didn't answer, she said "Sorry."
"Don't be." Matt said. "I need to move on, anyway." He grabbed what he was cooking and placed it in front of Terra. "Dig in."
He heard a knock on the front door. Terra started shaking. Matt walked over and answered it. The man from his dream stood in the doorway.
"Help, there, uh... Mathew Terrison?" the man asked.
"That's me. Who are you?" Matt asked calmly.
"That is not important." the man said. "What is important is that I be live you are harboring a child with some... special qualities."
"I don't know what you are talking about." Matt lied. "I'm not married and I never adopted any kids."
"I see." the man said. "Would you mind helping me look for this child?"
"Is this child yours?"
"Well, no..."
"Really? If your looking for s child that is not currently under your care, well, that's mighty suspicious, don't ya think?" Matt said. "Maybe I should arrest you."
"Look, I know you have who I'm looking for."
"I think you should leave." Matt said.
The man pulled out some kind of gun, the steampunk-ish one he had during Matt's "dream." However, at Tue sight of it, Matt pulled out his own gun, one he knew was an actual weapon.
"I certainly hope you're not threatening me with that." Matt said, still calm.
The man looked as if he was totally defeated, but he still couldn't give in no matter what. "Okay, look, I can't tell you where I'm from, who I am, or who I work for. Just know that if I don't get this child, it is a serious problem of national security." he said in a seemingly desperate attempt to convince Matt.
"Leave right now, or I will arrest you." Matt said, not taking any of his words.
The man tackled Matt to the ground, and they wrestled a bit. Matt watched out of the corner of his eye as Terra ran up stairs. Matt punched the man in the face and kicked him off. Matt stood up, but the man punched him in the stomach. Matt stumbled, and the man hit him again, this tome knocking matt back down to the floor. The man started to move towards the stairs, but Matt tripped him. Matt got up, and so did the man. The man, however, had his weapon pointed at Matt. "Sorry, Matt. You would be so helpful." And with that, the man shot him. Matt blacked out slowly, but he heard the man say "Don't worry. She'll be fine."

Two days later, Matt checked the mail. He hadn't told anybody what happened - nobody would really believe him. His mail was mostly bills, but there was one envelope that stood out above the rest. It had no return address on the envelope. - which probably was breaking some postal laws. Matt opened the envelope to find some professional-looking document.
