Chapter 1 (Training for War)

"Captain!" I heard a voice, directed towards me. I had been distracted by my thoughts, and was not paying attention.

Me and about 50 other military leaders from around the world had been drafted to protect the World and her liberty. We were standing in a line, and were training for the first ever military campaign against an outside force.

"Do you understand." The Sargeant said.

"Sir, could you repeat what you said."

He was disgusted.

"I'm sick of wasting my time on you." He said pointing at me. I saw some of the people around me starting to whisper.

"If you're not going to listen then you and your squad will be removed from training and sent home."

"Yes sir." I said.

He kept walking down the line, watching each individual as he continued speaking.

"We are fighting of a force that is 100 times greater then ours, according to NASA." He said. "And if we're going to win, we have to use strategy, not force."

I personally wasn't ready to fight. It's hard to leave in the middle of a school year, to fight for your country. My thoughts continued to drag me away from what my Sargeant was saying.

I yawned, unfortunately right when he walked by me.

"Captain." He said to me. "Can we win this war by strategy?"

"Yes Sir, we can use strategy to win the war."

"Good." He said. He looked at me one more time, and then continued walking.

"Captains, you are dismissed from training for the day." He said.

Good thing we are, I thought. I was tired, from training and couldn't wait to go back to the bunkers for some rest. He led us out of the training facility and into the main park. Where my friend Matt came up to me.

"Tough luck to be you." He said. "The way Sargeant looked he's ready for you to resign."

"Are you kidding me?" I asked. "They need all the troops they can get." I walked into the barracks and sat down on the uncomfortable couch.

"I guess they do, but he might put your squad up at front lines." Matt said,

I looked at him and said, "That's not really a laughing matter."

"I suppose it's not, but it could happen." He said as he walked out the door.

I looked around the plain room, and made my mind up that I hated war.

"I can't belive this." I said outloud, to myself. I threw the bullet-proof vest on my bed. "I'm not ready to fight."

I threw myself on my bed, and it must have only been five minutes before I fell asleep.

I woke up about 5:00 p.m. and decided I would go down to the mess hall for some supper. It was a nice but lonely walk, and as I walked through the rows of barracks I saw a few captains I knew and saluted. I then walked over to them for a brief conversation.

"Do you understand Captain." One of them said to me, jokingly. The others started laughing.

"Some way to present yourself to Sargeant." Another said.

I ignored him.

"Yeah, I bet you didn't even understand what he was talking about anyway." Still another said. They started laughing again.
