I was walking aimlessly around a beach in this small town called Glass Shard beach, New Jersey. My Mom had just told me to get some "fresh air." Honestly, it was just a way to get rid of me. I was sitting with a notebook randomly doodling.
"Whoa," I heard someone gasp behind me.
Instantly I turned around and punched them right in the face. I really looked at the kid again. He was about my age wearing jeans, red sneakers, a red and white striped shirt that he rolled up to his shoulders. He had a bandage on his face, and was missing a tooth, and had brown hair.
"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry!" I said.
"Ha! No problem. You have BLUE hair," he marveled.
"Stan!" another voice yelled, "Where are you?"
A small boy that looked similar to the kid you just met ran up to you. He was wearing a white shirt, a dark brown jacket, green pants, glasses, and blue sneakers. He had brown hair as well
"Has my brother been rude to you?" the boy with glasses asked, "Wait, where are my manners? My name is Stanford and this is my brother Stanley. You can call him Stan and me Ford."
"Neat," I said instinctively hiding my hands in the black sweatshirt I was wearing, "My name is Alex."
"Isn't that a boy name?' Stan asked.
"No," I defended, "It's short for Alexandra, but that's too long for me."
Ford was looking at my journal. "Do you draw?" he asked
"A little bit. I'm not really that great," I responded.
"Can I see some of your drawings?"
"Sure, why not."
When he sat down I looked at his hands. I counted his fingers, one - two - three - four - five ...... six! How could that be? I couldn't believe it. I must have been staring too long and Ford look at me and shoved the journal at me while putting his hands in his pockets.
"Every time," he mumbled, "it always has to be about the hands."
"No," I yelled. I couldn't lose these future friends this easily, "Wait!"
He turned around as I pulled my hands out of my pocket. He slowly walked back closer.
"No way," he whispered, "must be some trick of the light."
Stan was just standing there. Mouth wide open in confusion and disbelief.
"I thought I was the only one..." Ford trailed off.
Suddenly a strange woman started walking towards the boys. "Stanford, Stanley? Have you made a new friend?"
"Nah," I said, "I'm just a killer here to murder your sons."
She stared at me in disbelief for a moment.
"Of course I'm their friend," I reassured her.
"Oh thank goodness," she said, "I was worried for a second."
"Ma!" Stan yelled running over to me and grabbing my hand lifting it up, "She's got six fingers just like Fordsy here!"
"Anyways," she was gaping in disbelief, "You guys have to come with me to eat dinner. Pa has been waiting for the past five minutes for you."
The twins exchanged a bad look. "So," Stan said, "Same place tomorrow ten in the morning?"
"Sounds good!" I smiled while waving goodbye.
~~~~~
"So," my mom asked, "Did you meet anyone on the beach?"
"Maybe," I snapped.
"Honey I'm just trying to be interested in your life," my mom tried to hug me.
"Mom, let's face the facts," my brother James broke the silence, "Alex is a freak and a loner and will NEVER make friends."
"Honey, don't say that. She's not a freak," my mom lied.
The rest of dinner we ate in silence. I was used to being teased by my brother. It was normal for him to say things like that. Honestly, I am a freak. My fingers are nothing but an embarrassment to my whole family. I lay in my bed with my journal trying to perfect the drawing I had been working on when I fell asleep.
~~~~~~
(A/N) Hey! I wanted to make this because otherwise this chapter is exactly 666 words. Not that I'm superstitious or anything. Anyways share with your friends and let me know what I should change. Making young Stan and Ford talk is difficult because I don't really have a lot of material to go off of only a small clip from "A Tale of Two Stans".
