Hey guys! So this chapter is a lot shorter than I was anticipating it to be, but I'm pretty happy with where I cut it. It leaves some excitement for chapter 18 :):) Thanks for reading guys and please comment what you think and vote!
The song I used is See You Tonight by Scotty McCreery. It's his newest song and I'm slightly addicted to it. I've attached the music video on the side so check it out!
Chapter 17
Michael’s POV
7:58.
I pulled into Ivy’s driveway to pick her up for school. I didn’t say I was coming, but instead decided to surprise her. I also took the courtesy to pick up coffee. I put the truck in park and hopped out, leaving it running, as I jogged to her front door. Ringing the doorbell, I stood back and waited as I heard the lock click and the door open.
I was looking into a pair of hazel eyes when the door opened, but they weren’t Ivy’s. Stepping back in surprise, I realized Ivy’s mom was standing in front of me. “Um – hi, Mrs. Turner. I was wondering if Ivy was still here or if she had left for school already,” I asked her mom politely.
She smiled warmly at me, but I could see worry hidden behind the smile. “Oh um,” she trailed off as she waited for my name.
“Michael. Michael Taylor,” I said smiling.
“Michael. Nice to meet you, hon. Ivy isn’t going to school today. She said she didn’t feel well so I’m letting her stay home, but I’ll let her know you stopped by,” she said smiling at me.
“Okay, that would be great. Let her know I’ll bring by her missed work too,” I said smiling as I packed away from the door, waving at Mrs. Turner before jogging back to the truck. Hoping in, I sat in the truck, but didn’t put it in reverse to head for school. I sat staring at the house thinking about Ivy sitting up in her room all alone.
Putting the truck in reverse, I headed to school in a daze as I kept thinking back to Ivy. When I parked in lot 1, I pulled out my phone and opened up a message to Ivy.
Hey, V. came by 2pick u up but ur mom said u stayed home sick. Hope ur ok, send me a list of ur classes/teachers &ill get any work u miss 2day.
I hit send and got out of the truck grabbing Ivy’s untouched coffee and my bag, slinging it over my shoulder. I walked through the halls towards my locker when I saw Nick further down. I groaned as he caught sight of me and started hurrying to meet me. Crap. I forgot to call him yesterday. Now he’s going to be asking me questions. I don’t have time for this, man! I thought as he got closer.
He stopped in front of me and crossed his arms over his chest, glaring at me accusingly. I smiled, trying to look innocent. “Hey, man. Brought you coffee?” I said, more in a question as I held the lukewarm coffee out to him, as a peace offering. He rolled his eyes, but took the coffee anyway, sipping it, as we both started heading down the hall to my locker.
“So, you have a lot to explain seeing as you – I assume – forgot to call your best friend like you said you would,” he said in annoyance. I flinched at his words, knowing he was right.
“Ya, man I’m sorry. Been really stressed,” I said. He looked at me and I sighed, starting from meeting Ivy at her car yesterday after school to our late night questions until 5 last night. When I had him all caught up with the events over the past 12 hours, he whistled in shock.
“Wow, dude, yea ok I forgive you for not calling me. Completely understand now. I wonder what her freak out was about?” he asked. I shrugged as I leaned up against the lockers, checking my phone for the time and hoping to see a message from Ivy. She hadn’t responded to my message, but I assumed she would probably be asleep, since she was awake all night.
