Sure enough, they came. It appeared as if a hundred strong, darke faery flew upon the wind toward us, their darke and cold countenances not more than seventy-five feet outside the tower walls. Even as they came, the world around them seemed to wash out at their very presence, grey bleeding into the surrounding areas. None of the descriptions I'd received had really prepared me for the sight of them, vampires. That was the only comparison that my mind could pull forth for me. Vampires with wings, their flesh was. . .  I was sure they'd feel cold to the touch. All had hair of black, growing long and wild.

They were bound in black leather. Their bodies covered from neck to wrist, to I assumed ankle, with black boots that came to knee height. The skin that was visible, pale. Carrying weapons of various type and design. Though darke and menacing, you could still pick out some semblance of individuality from them. They were not drones, at least not in that sense. They were just soulless, without leight. And as I watched, I could see the coldness of their blackened eyes, all the brilliance of life seemingly removed, seeing something that I had not expected. In my own mind I'd thought of them as zombies, soulless creatures, doing the bidding of their master, instead I saw cold calculation. They were very much in control of themselves; only they were influenced by the Darke now. There was no Leight left in them to rein in the evil. They were frenzied in their bloodlust. Twisted smiles that were crazed and maniacal. They were by far, worse than even I'd been able to imagine. This was real, what we were really going up against. The darke ones flew quickly, with their swords held high, ready for attack. Their blackened, shriveled wings a mockery to the faery they'd once been.
