A voice.
Mac could hear it in the darkness of her thoughts. It spanned across the universe in search of ...something ...someone.
A message? Then Mac could hear it again, loudly resonating in her head, wrapping itself against her thoughts.
"A-X-O-L-O-T-L! My time has come to burn, I invoke the ancient power that I may return!"
The scream that came next pierced through Mac's mind like lightning and the connection severed.
Even in her state of unconsciousness, Mac knew who had sent this message. That voice was unforgettable. Never in her trillion years of life, however, would she have expected Bill Cipher to cast such a spell. Soon after the curse was set, Mac could feel a slight sting on her arms. She didn't need to look to know the incantation was being seared into her skin.
Another one to add to the collection.
Despite all this happening, Mac could not find the power to wake up. She remained trapped in the darkness of her mind as her physical body repaired itself. The darkness didn't bother her, actually, it was the memories she was forced to relive while being suspended in that void.
Mac recalled the events that happened just a few days ago, the one that had led to her comatose state.
Escaping from the Infinetentiary.
It took her a while to assess the full information her mind provided in relation to the place. How long was she trapped in there? Nine- ten thousand years? She'd stopped trying to keep track after the first few millennia.
But it didn't matter now. She was free.
Only, Mac never expected her first few moments of freedom would be spent unconscious.
She replayed the memory of finally breaking free, when Time Baby was reported dead. The magic barriers around her cage were practically useless after that. But even as she broke the chains, they released a shock wave-a failsafe.
The force blasted her out of that jail cell, temporarily stripping Mac of her powers. The last thing she saw was the giant gaping rift opened up over a blood red sky before she hit the ground.
Hopefully, she didn't just miss a century. That would be a terrible waste of time.
Then, finally, Mac's eyes snapped open and she was greeted with a pale blue sky and lush green forests. After a quick survey, Mac was relieved to find her powers intact, and a century had not yet passed. She also confirmed she had landed in the particular dimension Bill was so fond of. How convenient.
But as Mac strolled out of the forest, she noticed Bill's long foretold apocalypse was not in procession.
That would explain the self-preservation spell.
Mac growled, the sound made the ground rumble beneath her feet. A group of children playing just below the hill stopped their game to nervously glance at their surroundings. She willed the tremors to increase, and soon the whole town was feeling it. Someone screamed and the humans scattered.
The tips of Mac's fangs were exposed as her lips twisted into a grin.
"First things first," she hummed, "let's go find dear ol' Bill."
The shadows by the trees shifted suddenly. They pooled around Mac's feet like pure liquid darkness, and from that darkness rose two lupine creatures, with thick fur coats the colour of the night sky and dark glowing eyes. They snarled, their hackles raised and bared sharp fangs, almost similar to Mac's.
