After he spoke, Owen stole the seat next to me. My heart was thrumming in my chest. "So is everyone okay?"
He nodded, setting his own plate in front of me. "Yes. The snow storm is quite sudden though."
I bit my lip, rubbing my palms together. "What was the attacker after? Just me?"
"We do not know the answer to that just yet."
Looking at him closely, I could see just how tired he really was. His face may have been void of his true bottled up emotions, but his eyes were not. For what felt like the first time, I could read the emotions in his light irises. He was so strong for everyone, it seemed.
Every attack was weighing all of us down.
Couldn't we just enjoy the holidays without flaw for once?
My eyes slid up to his mused hair. It stood up sideways, flat on one side, and wild on the other.
Biting the inside of my lip, I tentatively raised my hand up, and began running my fingers through his silky locks.
His sharp gaze quickly turned to stare. I refused to make eye contact as I continued fixing his bed head. My heart was pounding in my ears, ready to jump up my throat. I couldn't quite place why I decided to reach up and touch his hair, and frankly, it had my skin tingling with nerves.
When I was happy with how it looked, I slowly pulled away, my gaze still locked on his locks.
Slowly, I shifted my eyes, and met his gaze with my own.
His steal eyes conveyed a question. "Bed hair just doesn't suit you." I say softly, my words hard to find.
The light pull of his lip had me relaxing, and I smiled back. I realized just how close we had gotten on the stools. I couldn't focus with how his warm breath tickled my face, and how his eyes sparkled brightly. My heart was going to burst, for sure. Was he leaning closer?
Was I?
"Well, then I suppose I should thank you, Miss Sang." Owen's voice was smooth, and the smile he had made my brain shut down.
Gasping for a response, I willed my head to nod. It didn't. "Anytime, Owen."
I hadn't realized I was whispering until after I spoke. His eyes were locked on my own, reading my emotions, and seeing my soul before him. I couldn't focus on anything other than his perfect, handsome face.
Was he going to make a move? Did I want him to? Well...
Owen blinked a few times, drawing away from me. He turned back to his food slowly.
Disappointment filled me with his actions. I bit my lip.
I tried to not pant, my breath gone, as I twisted around to face my apple juice. I struggled to control my breathing. I knew my face was flushed red.
What happened?
Was it suddenly hot in here?
