Chapter 2 – My Act of Kindness

Sang's POV:

I whistled and twirled my keys on my finger as I walked towards the public Campus Café for a coffee. SmartGeek52 and I had talked a bit for an hour or so and showed me around his world. He told me I could build anything I wanted and so he showed me a space where I could. He was bothered that maybe it wasn't big enough but, oh ho, it was plenty big. I assured him so. He also told me only ten people could join Blackbourne World and that I was one of them. I blushed at that. He let me in? Just because I was better than some of his other victims? I kind of felt blessed though. Special. He made me feel as if though I mattered. As if though I were actually an important person. As if I wasn't just a broken, scarred, and abused girl who had a big imagination.

But there was one thing I liked about myself. One thing I felt pride for. I always had hope. Hope that when one day nothing went right, another day would be better. It always got better. There was a speck of evil in a large body of good. But in a large body of evil, there would always be a speck of good.

I shook my head. Why was I thinking these thoughts again? I took a deep breath and entered the Café. I hated being around people. They always made me nervous. It was because this was real life and that if anything embarrassing would happen, people would know my true identity. In online social media and games, though, no one knew it was me. No one knew how I looked, or how I acted, or what I thought of. They only saw the outside shell of me. The fake me. Except....

Except SmartGeek52. I didn't know why, but my gut had told me to open up to him. He even returned all of my stuff that I had lost in the battle. I was touched. Who was this guy? I didn't know. All I knew was that he was a kindred spirit. The first one I'd ever met other than my guidance counselor.

The bell jingled above me, and I realized I was still standing there. I hurried to the back of the long line. I was vaguely aware of a girl glaring at me but I ignored it. I hadn't done anything to her, right? A guy came up in line behind me and the scent of moss and berries washed over me. I took in deeper breaths than necessary just to smell the exotic scent. It made me feel calm and at peace but also sent my heart dashing.

"Next, please."

I glanced at the menu and decided for a regular coffee. Karen – I had read her name tag – handed it over to me on a small tray. I grab one of the napkins beside her and grab the pen that was on the counter and wrote:

Here's fifty dollars to pay for the guy behind me. Anything he doesn't use, you keep for yourself as a tip. The twenty is your actual tip. Thanks a bunch!

With that, I slid a fifty and a twenty over the counter along with the napkin. She read it and nodded seriously, catching my eye. I sent her a smile and walked away, sneaking a peek at the stranger behind me.

I sat down and started drinking my coffee, mindlessly reading on my phone as I thought of the stranger. He had a handsome face. Wavy brown hair brushed back. I couldn't see what color his eyes were because they were on his cell phone screen, fingers that were long and lean typing furiously on it. I sighed. As if he would notice me.

Victor's POV:

Victor: So, are you going to tell me what happened last night?

Kota: Uh, fine. I met this girl and she lasts about four minutes against me.

Victor: Whoa, is this the BrokenPink girl you added to the World?

Kota: How'd you know? I never mentioned her username. You also were not on the world at the time. I had checked.

Sheesh. Kota really was crazy for this girl. He had just up and called me right in the middle of my piano concert practice. Then again, I don't blame him for that as he didn't know. I had only told Mr. B. Not to mention that he had checked first that none of us were there. Was this the result of hormones or stress? I'd have to ask Doc.

Victor: Did you not know that in order for her to get a notification about Blackbourne World, that everyone would get one. So technically, everyone knows. Mr. B will definitely be asking you about this.

Kota: Oh snap, that's my consequence, huh? What do you reckon Mr. B will say?

Victor: I really don't know.

"Next, please."

I looked up and saw it was my turn. The worker at the counter had an amused smile on her face. She was also around my age.

Victor: Have to go, we'll talk later though.

Kota: Ok.

"Uh, I'll have an iced Frappuccino." I said. The worker – Karen – started shaking her head.

"But that's only $7.99 you need to get more. Buy something else."

I blinked. Desperate much? I did what she asked anyway. It wasn't like I needed all this money. I asked for a bag of chocolate chip cookies. She let out a relieved breath and got them ready for me.

She put them on a large tray and handed it over. "Next!" she called out.

"Wait!" I said. I hadn't paid her yet. "Why didn't you..."

She smiles that amused smile again. "It's on the house."

I blinked again. "How come? I don't know you or anyone here. It's only my second time here."

"Well, maybe it's because you're cute."

I sighed. "Let me pay you. Or at least tip you."

She shook her head but leaned down to whisper in my ear, "To tell the truth, the blonde in front of you paid for your order. She gave me fifty bucks and told me that anything you didn't use would be my tip."

"Then why did you make me get more coffees? Don't you want a bigger tip?"

"Well, you see," she chuckles, "she already gave a twenty dollar tip and that would be adding to it. Twenty dollars is the biggest tip I've ever received and I don't want to take advantage of her kindness."

I grew determined. This girl paid for me. When I certainly didn't need it. This girl...this girl should be treated like a princess because of all the kindness she had in her heart. I wasn't paying attention to the person in front of me when I should have. I would find this girl.

"Do you happen to know where she is?" I would find this girl. Even if it was impossible. Anything was possible.

Karen giggled. "She's actually in the Café right now." She sent me a big grin. "I can't wait to see how this turns out! She's at table C6."

"Thanks." I stuck my hand in my pocket and reached for my wallet. Taking a twenty dollar bill, I left it on the counter when Karen wasn't looking and take my tray to C6.

I could see a girl with dirty blonde hair tucked into a bun. I took the seat across from her. She looks up, shocked.

Found you, Princess.
