I enter the kitchen wearing fresh clothing. Much better. I show up with a comfortable dark blue tang top, black yoga pants, a colourful scarf, a pair of Converse shoes, and my hair is brushed and a braid put to the side. "I look like the apocalypse never started!" I joke with Masie. "You look beautiful. Don't worry about it." She says seriously. I smile for her generosity. "Thank you. Let's find a seat."
The cafeteria was filled with long tables with kids filling them. "Oh, over there" She points to a table at the back. She grabs my wrist and takes me to it. We take a seat. "Calvin said his group only had 10 or 11 people, this is more like 40 kids."
"Ya, we tell that to everyone, to get them to accept our offer; to come here."
"Makes sense."
"Stay here, I'll grab us some food. Would you like deer and carrots, or 3 squirrels and a corn on the cob?" She asks. "The deer. I'm starving."
"Alright give me about 10 minutes, long line up."
"Sounds good." Masie gets up, and head to the line. I'm left alone, once again. Surprisingly, it's not that noisy in a cafeteria filled with kids. They all looked saddened yet happy at the same time. I hear a group of boys walk past my table. "Woah, look at the new member!" I hear one say, knowing they were talking about me, I look down at my shoes, trying to ignore them. "She's hot!" Another chirps in. They all start to laugh. In my opinion, I don't think it's funny at all. I hear footsteps behind me, and feel a tap on my shoulder. I look over, and is one of the annoying teenage boys. He was tall, had a black hoodie and a pair of khakis on, and had freshly cut brown hair. The smell of his cologne pinches my nose hairs. Typical teenage boy. "Hey. How you doing? How about me and you go back to my room after you eat?" He says, trying to romantic. "I'm sorry, but did you notice that the world is ending? Get the hell away from me." I push him away. "Geez, girl. Simmer. Just come back to my room. That's all I'm asking." Suddenly, I hear loud footsteps from behind me. "She said get the hell away from her." A familiar voice says. I turn and see it was Calvin. I got butterflies in my stomach as I saw him. The boy stomps over to Calvin. "What are you gonna do about it?"
"Well I'm just gonna tell you something. I just came back from hunting, and I still have my gun. So back the hell up, and don't ever touch her again. Got it?" Calvin whispered in the boys ear, just loud enough so I could here as well. The boy backed up and went back to his snotty group of friends. "Let's go." I hear the boy say. Calvin took a seat beside me. "Look I'm sorry. Some people aren't just good with first impressions," Calvin paused. He leans in closer to my ear. "How about me and you go. We can hunt together, I'll even show you some tricks to fighting."
"I would love that! I don't want to become weak. I just need to tell Masie." I get up from my seat and try to find her in the mess of a line. As I see her spot I walk up to her and tap her elbow. "Hey Masie, Calvin asked if I wanted to go hunting with him. I really need to work on my technique, it's a great opportunity." I wait for approval. "Fine, go. I'll save your food for later, I'll find some people to sit with. Go! Have fun!" I couldn't tell if she was happy or frustrated with me but I didn't bother responding. I ran straight to Calvin. "Let's go." I smile.
