I followed Marie into the house and as soon as the door was shut my dad came out of the bedroom.
"Where have you been?" he asked. He looked agitated and jumpy, like something was not right and he was scared something was going to fall apart at any moment.
"I was at a school camping trip," I lied. It was a slight truth, since I was part of the Academy now and if the guys called it their school, I think I can call it mine now too.
"Why did your sister not go along?" he asked, gesturing toward Marie. She was standing in the doorway with a smug grin on her face, she knew something was up. I don't know what I walked in to, but Marie clearly did.
"It was for a class she doesn't have and that I do," I try to explain.
"Why did no one answer out there? I tried calling for days and only was able to get to an answering machine. I finally got through today," my dad said. He looked skeptical about the school camping trip and I was not sure how to answer. I knew there was not any service for phones out in the wilderness and I thought he would have thought of that.
"There was no reception," I said quietly. Surely he would believe and understand that?
"It doesn't matter anymore. Pack your bags, I have pulled you from your current school and you will be transferring to a new private boarding school. They said they would take you now so we are going now. The house is up for sale and I should have it sold soon, this neighborhood is a good one." My dad dropped the news and I felt like a bomb went off. Everything stilled and became slightly blurry on the edges. My blood was rushing so fast it was all I could hear, like when you are quickly gaining altitude and you are waiting for your ears to pop so you can hear again.
I turned numbly toward the staircase and watched as Marie smirked at me. She knew it was coming and she did not even tell me, warn me. I thought back to when I saw her cleaning, she was getting ready for this. What would we do now that I had to leave? Would I ever get to see the guys again? I made it to the door of my bedroom without even realizing it. I had a weird tingly feeling in my legs and feet, like they did not belong to me. They were simply doing as I was asked, no hesitation to rebel. I pushed my bedroom door open and was hit with a wave of all of the scents that went with each guy, it was almost too much, but it helped me feel more in control. Mr. Blackbourne was standing in the center and Luke went behind me to shut the door and lock it.
"Miss Sorenson, I am leaving one boy behind, but I am going to extract you from this house. I am going to give your father an offer he cannot resist and we will have you out tonight." Mr. Blackbourne sounded so sincere and I couldn't help but believe him, I knew he would not break his word. They all hugged me and shuffled out of the window, looking grave but hopeful. It was a strange mix to see on their faces but if they believed it could work then I knew it would.
Gabriel closed the window once they were all out and then checked the hallway. Once he was happy it was clear he pulled me out of my room and into the bathroom. I was still a mess and probably smelled horrible. I had not had a full bath at Victor's and I still felt bad that they did not know that I heard everything. I wanted to fix it all, but it was impossible for me to do anything but wait now. Gabriel helped me undress, down to my underwear and bra again. He had already filled the tub and had found some bath bubbles as well. I walked over to the tub, still feeling numb and lowered myself into the water. I let Gabe wash my hair and scrub my arms and feet. He let me shave and wash everywhere else, turning around politely for me. I washed my bra and underwear and hung them on the side of the tub, I knew they were probably trash now after how dirty I had been but, I still wanted to try and clean them.
