Chapter 10: Tinted Ice

Setsumi was weak at the moment. She longed for the recovery of Karin. Toshiro, with his last bit of strength, dragged his body towards Karin. He noticed that Setsumi did not have an effect on Karin's health at all. Immediately, he summoned a Hell Butterfly. It left with the message with one simple word, Help.

The Captain of the fourth division and her squad came as soon as the message reached them. In critical conditions, Karin and Toshiro were taken to Seireitei to receive medical attention. Ichigo, along with Yuzu arrived as well worrying about the well-being of their sister.

Captain Unohana demanded alone time with Karin, as Toshiro had already been attended to. She saw that there was no external damage because Setsumi had healed them. Immediately, Unohana took notice of what was happening internally. Setsumi was much to powerful to be in the hands of a human, and that power took a toll on Karin's body.

Her Shinigami surgeons came in running to start a new procedure. They would try their best to save Karin's life, as only a miracle could stop this tragedy.

Toshiro was no human, he was a full-time Shinigami. His body didn't take extreme damage compared to any human in his place. He was only bandaged up and told to stay resting. The door to his room swung open letting a devastated Ichigo enter.

Silence came over the room. Toshiro couldn't look at Ichigo, thinking he was guilty of Karin's situation. All Ichigo could do was look at Toshiro.

"Thank you Toshiro." Ichigo broke the silence. "You saved her-"

He was cut off by a frustrated Toshiro. "Did you not see her? She could die!" He said punching the wall.

Silence came over the room again. Ichigo sat at the desk in the room watching Toshiro shift his hands towards his face. Ichigo began to hear sobs.

"She... Karin.... She was willing to die for me." Toshiro's sobs increased in volume. "She lost control on purpose, I saw her look at me as she mouthed two dreadful words. I'm Sorry."

Tears finally rolled down Toshiro's face as he remembered that moment.

Ichigo smiled.

"That's my sister for ya." He looked up at Toshiro. "She'll do anything to protect the ones she cherishes."

With that said, Ichigo stood and left taking Yuzu with him. All they could do was wait and hope for the best.

"Her body is only becoming colder! We need to finish this now!" Unohana shouted at the nodding surgeons.

Karin had ice inside of her body. It was not normal ice, so there was no clear solution. All Unohana could do was examine her and use a device that could hopefully extract the ice before it could become fatal.

"Continue fighting for him, that's your only hope in recovering Kurosaki Karin." Unohana whispered at the cold body as she exited the room.
