Clove looked in the mirror and sighed. Same doe-like dark brown eyes and straight dark brown hair, same small pale pinched face, same rawboned body. Some days she wished that she would wake up and be beautiful and not plain. Clove put her hair up into a messy bun and dressed into a coral red sundress. Her mother allows her to wear make up, but she feels like she's wearing a mask when she puts it on. She grabbed her backpack and slipped her tennis shoes on as she was leaving. Clove took a deep breath. Another day of training she thought grimly. She started walking to school a sick feeling in her stomach at the thought of killing someone.
"Clove wait up!" Cato yelled, racing up his best friend; Clove looked behind her and saw Cato running down the street, his red backpack falling off his left shoulder. Clove began to slow her pace so Cato could catch up.
"Thanks Clove, I thought you where going to leave without me" Cato said panting
"Know why would I leave without you?" Clove said smiling.
"Don't know" Cato said shrugging his shoulders; he returned Clove's smile. Clove felt her heart flutter. They walked to school with Cato talking about masonry the whole way. Clove shoved his shoulder.
"What?" Cato asked
"We learn about this all day long at school, I don't wanna hear it now" Clove said laughing. Cato looked uneasy, but soon relaxed and laughed along with her. Soon the massive steel and glass school building loomed over them. They walked though the automatic sliding glass doors together. Since they had the same locker bank, they walked to their lockers together and parted ways to get to their lockers. Clove put her backpack away and grabbed her books for her first four classes.
"First period, history of Panem and district two" Clove said thinking aloud, walking down the hall.
