He had told you this a month before, but you still found yourself quietly crying on your way down to the pier. Why did it have to be this month, why not the next? You didn't want him to leave! It wasn't fair, you wanted him to stay with you.

"____" He grabbed your hand, funny you hadn't noticed that you were at the pier already.

"How long do you have until..." You couldn't even spit out the last part.

"Not long, about 15 minutes, but we could go to the candy shop one last time!"

You nodded your head in agreement. You weren't going to argue with him now. He tried to let go of your hand as you walked along. "Oliver..., please don't." You said quietly. He held your hand tighter in response. "Why..", it was all you could spit out at the moment, although there were a million things that you wanted to blurt out to him.

"___ you know why, I have studies in other countries, I told you when we met it wasn't going to be permanent. You knew since the time we became friends that I was going to leave you behind, and as I did before this, go to another country!" He told you.

"Well I didn't think that a year would go so fast!" you said. Again you could feel more tears welling up but for now you kept them away, for now. "Oliver, will you ever come back?" You were still looking at the ground, but you noticed that his head turned to you.

"After my studies are done of course! I want to live here in Japan! I love it here! I promise I will come back." You looked at him with tears in your eyes. "___, I won't let you cry!" he said wiping away your tears with his velvet sleeve. You continued to walk with him until you had reached the candy shop. "___ what do you want? It's all on me!" You pointed over to the pocky stand, you still could hardly speak. "What kind?"

"Our kind." you said lightly enough for him to hear you. The first pocky he tried was chocolate. That was the day you two first met, the memory was rushing back to you now,

*Flashback*

"So what's your name!" You cheerfully smiled at the boy in what seemed to be a sailor out fit of some sort.

"Oh I'm Oliver, and this is James! We're from Brittan but are traveling the world for our studies." The yellow and black bird chirped on his shoulder. "Hah I think he likes you! I never asked what is your name?"

"Oh I'm ___" You said excited. No one ever really talked to you since everyone thought you were weird.

"You don't talk to people much do you?" he said sensing that you had never had a friend.

"Only my older brother, ___" you said looking at the ground.

"Well then I'll be your new friend!" he cheered hugging you. "What's that?" he pointed to the pocky box in your hand.

"Oh just some pocky. Want some?" You took a stick out of the box and gave it to him. He put it in his mouth, swished it around for a while and finally crunched it up.

"WOW! This is the best thing I have ever tasted!" He exclaimed in amazement.

You laughed, "Well from now on Oliver, this will be our kind!" You both laughed the rest of the day playing in the sand, with the bird happily chirping away.

*end flashback*

Those were the days that you wanted to go back to. When it was just you and him without a care in the world. He paid for the item and walked out of the shop with you. "Here we'll split the box." He gave you five of the ten sticks out of the box. You ate them one by one making everyone last, until you came to the last one.

You just stared at that one. You hadn't noticed but you were already at the pier, next to Oliver's boat where his parents were at, tying up the mass, doing other boat stuff that Oliver hadn't taught you, and finally pulling up the anchor.

Oliver stepped on board. You still held his hand. "___," He said letting go of your hand. "You will always be my friend. I will never forget you." His parents were on the other side of the boat pulling out of shore they finally went under the deck to go get some more sleep.

Oliver was the only one on top deck. You waved him off as he was disappearing, the bird chirping away as if to tell you good bye. He called out to you to tell you something but you couldn't make it out. He waved to you again before taking the ships wheel and holding it steady to the wind.

You watched for a while until he disappeared into the sun. As soon as he was out of sight you started to cry. You had no one to hold onto anymore. Your first and only friend had vanished. You were the only one left. You looked at your pocky stick that was still in your hand. You ate it knowing that even though he said he would, he would never be back
