"Hinata, what is this?" Kageyama asked as soon as he got to their apartment, a slip of paper in his hand as he closed the door.
Hinata ran over to greet Kageyama at the door, but paled when he saw the paper. Damn it. How could he have forgotten? "U-Um...nothing..."
"Hinata." Kageyama said, a stern expression on his face. "What is this bill from?" He asked, waving said bill in the air.
"I....I can't tell you..." Hinata mumbled, looking down at the floor.
"Why not?" Kageyama asked through gritted teeth, frustration visible on his face.
"I just can't!" Hinata said, looking up. He started at the expression on Kageyama's face, seeing his scrunched up eyebrows and the frown that was set deep into his countenance. He tensed, taking a step back from the doorway as Kageyama proceeded forward.
"Hinata. I'm not going to ask again."
"I-I..I...um..."
Kageyama sighed tiredly, running his hand through his hair in irritation. "You know that money is tight right now. We don't have the cash to just buy whatever we want! Especially something that was this expensive!"
"I'm sorry!! I just wanted to surprise you!!"
"This isn't a surprise! This is a waste of money!"
"If you knew what I bought you wouldn't be saying that!" Hinata said, stepping closer to Kageyama. Kageyama's scowl deepened as he looked down at Hinata, and Hinata internally gulped. He can't back down now though, he wouldn't. His surprise would be ruined!
Kageyama knew Hinata was stubborn, but really? At a time like this!? The bill didn't show what was bought, but it showed how much money was spent, and that was enough for Kageyama.
"I don't need any more surprises," Kageyama said flintily, "And I especially don't need you spending money as you please."
"It's always like this!" Hinata yelled, throwing his hands into the air. "You're always blaming me for stuff!! I mean yeah, this time you think I fucked up but I didn't!! I promise!!"
"Then what's the "surprise" you're so defensive about!?" Kageyama yelled back. "Maybe if you told me I wouldn't be getting so mad!"
"You'd be mad either way!! You always are!!" Hinata said, raising his voice louder as he glared at Kageyama.
"Well maybe if you didn't fuck up so much I wouldn't be!!"
Hinata's eyes widened in surprise, stinging with unshed tears. They've always had fights, but none have ever escalated to this height. He had to leave Kageyama alone, he knew. Just for a little bit, just to cool off.
"W-Well then," Hinata stuttered, the tears finally making there way down his cheeks.
Kageyama's angry expression morphed into concern as he watched Hinata cry. Fuck. This wasn't what he wanted.Kageyama took a step forward, extending his hand and reaching up to touch Hinata's face. "Hinata, I-"
"No, it's okay," Hinata said, moving away from Kageyama, "I'm a fuck-up, I know, I'll just-"
"Hinata, please-"
"You need your time alone, I get it, I'll just leave," Hinata said quietly. And before Kageyama could stop him, he sprinted out the front door.
After the shock settled, Kageyama gripped at his hair in frustration. "Fuck," He mumbled to himself.
"Fuck!!" He said, louder. He swung his arm and hit the wall, the impact causing a resounding slam to echo throughout the now empty apartment. Hinata wouldn't survive without him if he was acting on instincts. The neighborhood they lived in wasn't one of the safest, but it was affordable and they had each other, so it didn't really matter whether they were in danger or not. They always had each other's backs. They were always there for each other. Now they just had one of the biggest fights in their relationship, and Kageyama was just standing in the foyer of their apartment, not chasing after Hinata. How could he after what he said?
