Broken

Lies. Lies are the only things that I've been hearing. I've been told so many lies. So much, that it has begun to ooze out of the walls. So dissatisfying to look at it brings an unpleasant taste in the back of my throat. I feel like I'm going to convulse at the sight.

Slowly my footsteps echo in the hall. The sound of laughter taunts me from below, but the winds howl invites me from above.

My hands run along the side of the cold stair railing. Step by step my breath speeds up. I reach my destination and find my hands opening the door. The handle as cold as ice. The howling creak of the door opening sends shivers down my back. It was a very satisfying sound.

I'm greeted by the winds icy embrace. It encloses me in a world of pure delusion. I allow it. May the darkness be my friend.

I walk to the edge, look up at the sky, look up at the dark clouds brooding. The wind is relaxing. It left me tranquil, even if it was just a moment.

I need to get 'something's' off my chest. My voice is nothing compared to the howling of the wind, but even so this must be said.

"Why was it me? Why did it have to be me? All I wanted to do was make friends. Was that really too big of a wish?" I sound weak and disorientated, I suppose at that moment I was.

In the pit of my stomach, I can feel the built up anger and sadness take control. It threatens to create an over boil of emotion. It turns my face red, it makes my eyes water and my voice becomes a high yell.

"I want you to know this. I wanted to be a part of something big. That was my wish." My eyes burn and I watch as the clouds move quickly past me. "That was my wish."

I step a closer to the edge. I rub my eyes, an unexplainable feeling is left in my stomach. I have nothing to lose, I have more to gain. The ground is so far away from where I stand. A wide spread of asphalt below my feet.

I take that last step. I thought of nothing as I came quickly down to meet the ground. I felt nothing as I hit the hard concrete floor, but I heard a shrill call that if I were to wake up could haunt me for the rest of my life.
