As Giulietta entered the dark, eerily quiet mansion there was tension in the air, like something was out of place on a perfectly stacked bookcase. Giulietta drew in a deep breath and paced quietly forward deliberately placing her foot down ever so gently to attract no more than a quiet thump on the floor.
Giulietta had gone no more than a couple of meters before she could smell the faint outline of decaying flesh, she gagged as she drew in every breath. As she moved slowly in the direction of the smell she could sense something watching her, waiting for her. She paused, waiting for someone or something to come jumping out. She stayed put for about 5 minutes, not moving or making a sound. She finally decided to move again only after the presence of whoever it was had gone or moved on. She now advanced quickly not caring if anyone heard her, she had gone 15 to 20 meters before can came upon a hanging body, draped upside down with a rope attached to their legs and hands. Their head was the wrong way around and it was smiling. The body was brutally dissected with the guts used as a party hat. The body looked like it had been there for about 3 days. The body reeked with decay and just when the smell couldn't get any worse Giulietta vomited, letting her lunch come up and out. She stood there dazed then she slowly regained her strength and turned and bolted out towards the entrance way hoping to get away from what ever had happened to that poor man.
Giulietta raised herself in triumph as the end horn blew. She had won. She raced energetically towards the winner's podium and helped herself up. She stood proud and watched the crowd around her sway and cheer. She got down and walked over to the judge who gave her the winner's prize. She thanked the judge's and walked away, headed for her house on the outskirts of Florence, Italy. Giulietta had arrived home at her little house at the end of the street. Her mum was waiting for her out the front. "Where have you been?" she asked
"Look ma, I won the parkour challenge down at the beach" declared Giulietta as she handed her ma the money.
"I don't give a hoot" Giulietta's ma swore "go to your room and stay there." Yelled Giulietta's ma. Giulietta couldn't hold back the tears as she ran up to her room. She ran over to the window and looked out, tears still in her eyes. She looked out along the tree line and saw the glint of something among the trees. She wiped her eyes to get a better look at the object moving quickly through the forest. She raced over to her cabinet to grab her jumper and then she turned and jumped out the window and down onto the bottom roof of her house. She sprinted away from her house and towards the last known position of the object.
She reached the outer edges of the forest and took in the scents of ferns and the new regeneration of plants and new wildlife that had come out to enjoy the sun. She stood there scoping out the forest for any signs that someone or something had been there. She started to get impatient and started to pace quickly up and down the forests edge hoping for any sign that something was there and that her eyes weren't playing tricks on her. She had grown frustrated and started to turn when she heard someone whisper behind her. She froze. She had not expected anyone to be there. She turned around slowly and saw a long pathway heading into the forest. She started towards the pathway not able to hold back as if like there was some sort of magical energy drawing her towards the path.
Her mind started to drift as she entered onto the pathway and slowly she started to lose consciousness.
