"Chris, what the heck are you doing?!"
I ran toward my bed and hurriedly stripped my clothes off.
"Um, I'm getting dressed for school."
I gathered my clothes and dumped them into my basket
Why do I have to go to school? It's a waste of money! Honestly, can't we just save the money for Kile?
"Chris! Get your butt over here I haven't got all day!"
"Got it, Paul. Just give me a minute to get myself ready! Gosh, I have to have at least 10 minutes! Which I would've had if you had woken me up this morning!"
"Don't blame me little girl! I'm too old for this! Maybe I should just let you use your drivers license!"
I stuck out my tongue and put on my new uniform.
How many years has it been since I put one on? About 4 years. Huh, I'm getting older.
"I'm ready!"
"Okay, then let's get going. I have to get Kile to school as well. Damn, I hate being the oldest child!"
I run down the stairs and run towards Paul's truck. Kile is already in his seat and buckled so I sit in my seat and start doing my hair. Paul starts the car and drives toward Kile's school.
"Good morning, Kile! How did you sleep?"
I turn around and rustle his hair. He giggles and starts to smile.
"I slept good but I woke up in the middle of the night and was hungry. I took Henry's pudding! I hope he doesn't get mad at me."
I smile and turn around toward Paul and start to text to him.
C: We have to replace the pudding before Henry comes back!
Paul glances at his phone and nods. He stops at Kile's school and let's him out.
"Have a great day, guys!"
Me and Paul wave to him until he's in the building.
"We need to get some more of Henry's pudding. Like NOW! He'll punish Kile again! The teacher will ask again and we can't tell her he fell! It doesn't work twice!"
"Stop panicking, Chris. He'll be fine. I'll replace it when I get home from work. If I'm not home then you have to take the blame. We can't let him hit Kile again. He went to the hospital last time."
"I hope this works out."
"Me, too."
"I wish we weren't like this, stuck in an orphanage like this. It wasn't always like this....We used to be free but now we're stuck in a dang orphanage. Why did they die?"
I started to cry and ball into my seat. Paul starts the car and drives on to my school.
"It's too late for that. They're gone and will never come back again."
Paul put his hand on my shoulder and stared at the road. I realized that he was crying too. He was trying to be strong for me. I wiped my eyes and stared at the road again.
