Chapter 8: Greg's dark side

Rose was sobbing on her knees behind a huge wide tree so that no one could see her. She was beginning to calm down when suddenly she heard the sound of running feet nearby. She gasped and held her breath in fear that it could be Candice or Derek. She really didn't want to see them right now. She looked over to her left to see a boy looking around. As he got closer, Rose realized it was Greg. Greg?! What's he doing here? As if he heard her thoughts, he ran to where she was and took in a deep breath."R-Rose.." Greg was out of breath, probably because of all the running he was doing today. "I found you!" He gave one glance at Rose and began blushing. His face turned a dark red as he stared at Rose. Rose sat there motionless, before shouting at Greg and quickly covering herself with her arms. Greg looked away and  quickly apologized to Rose.  He took off his jacket, and handed it to Rose. "Here, put this on." Rose took his jacket and zipped it up. It was big on her, but it was better than what she was wearing. She thanked Greg, and they began talking about what happened. Greg was angry about the whole situation, although he didn't say exactly, Rose could see anger fill his eyes. "Greg?" Greg shot a dirty look at Rose and she looked down. Greg's eyes softened and he hugged her. " I'm sorry Rose, but how could you let them do stuff like that to you?" Rose shrugged. "I...I don't know...I thought Derek was my friend, I can't hurt him again..I already slapped him. Candice is the one I'm angry at, but I can't bring myself to hurt her back. I don't want to stoop down to their level." Greg stared at Rose, empathy in his eyes. "oh Rose, you don't need to do what they did. All you need to do really, is to not stay quiet about this." Rose's eyes widened. "L-like tell a teacher?" Greg nodded. "No way! They are only gonna hurt me more!" Greg sighed. "They will continue to hurt you either way" Suddenly Greg felt Rose slide closer to him. He was about to ask why she did that when suddenly in the distance, he saw Derek staring intensively at them. Greg growled and grabbed Rose's hand. "Rose, I will be back." He let go of her hand and stood up. "G-Greg?? No!" She reached for him, but failed to. She jumped up only to see Greg confronting Derek. She couldn't hear what they said, but she watched in horror as Derek began towering over Greg. Oh no...it seems as if he is....are they going to FIGHT?! She saw Derek throw a punch at Greg, but he quickly ducked and dodged it. Greg then stood out his leg, causing Derek to stumble backwards. He took this chance to throw a punch at him. Derek caught his arm, and twisted it. Rose gasped and began running towards them. Greg punched Derek in the face, causing him to get a bloody nose. Derek grunted and tackled Greg. Rose began trying to pull Derek off Greg. "Stop!!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. She tugged on Derek's arm, but to no success. Suddenly a whistle could be heard from a distance. A coach ran up beside them and pulled Derek off Greg. Greg had a black eye but Derek had a bloody nose. Rose ran and hugged Greg. "Greg why did you do that?! That was stupid of you!!" Greg opened his mouth to speak, but before he could, the coach yelled at them to go to the office. Greg just grinned at Rose and mouthed that it'll be ok. Derek's face was boiling red with rage. He clenched his fists and stomped over to the office. Greg casually walked over there, leaving Rose pondering about what had just happened.
