We finally reach the city of Portland. after a long journey, we reach a hotel. Marie not only has driven me through at least two states but flown with me for three more. child protection services must not want my parents anywhere near me ever again. we get out of car and Marie tells me to go and tell the office for our room. she must have already booked it. I walk in the office finally getting warmth seeping into my clothes from the cold outside. the fact that the car we hired so happened to have a broken air conditioner. I walk up to the desk to see an elderly lady sitting behind. 'hi ma'am, umm we have a room booked'. 'name dearie?'. 'Marie?' she then moves to a book. a large book. she runs her finger along the page looking for her name. 'ah, here we are, Marie, and plus one for one night correct?' she asks looking up from the book to look at me. then hears the door open as Marie enters with my bag only over her shoulder and a small carry bag for herself. 'yes that is correct' Marie says as she walks up to the desk. the woman gets up from her seat and turn to the board covered in keys on hooks and picks up a key and hands it to me. 'I hope you enjoy your stay with us' she says with a quick smile and returns to her chair. as we turn and make our way to the stairs making our way up to the second floor to our room for the night. 'Dawn you go get ready for bed I have to call my superiors and tell them what is happening okay?'. I nod and take my bag to the bathroom to get changed and brush my teeth and put my hair up into a bun on top of my head. I never liked sleeping with my hair around my face and neck it becomes itchy and uncomfortable. I exit the bathroom as Marie comes off the phone. she grabs her bag and heads into the bathroom so she can get ready for bed. I crawl into bed under the warm blankets. Marie must have turned on the electric blanket while she was on the phone for me. the warmth of the bed. the long travel and a number of tears I shed today have left its toll on me and my eyes close on their own accord. soothing me into a dreamless sleep before Marie even exits the bathroom. proving that I am exhausted.
