Cinder sat in the hospital room, sleeping soundly. Her body was calm, peaceful even. Her mind, however, was a rampant warzone. Her dreams were nightmares that kept her mind locked by chains, unable to escape. She felt herself being latched down, the chains preventing any hope of escaping. She suddenly saw someone standing in front of her, only a few feet separating them. She noticed him right away, her eyes widening.
"Flint!" She called out, reaching for him. The chains kept her wrists from parting too far from the wall. Flint just stared at her, a sad look on his face.
"Help me! Please, Flint!" Cinder shouted once again. In his hands, he held the key that would release her, that would finally free her and allow her to leave her previous life. All he needed to do was help her, free her like he always had.
But he didn't. Instead, he shook his head, turning around and leaving her with a quote:
"It's not your time yet." Flint said was he walked away, the shadows consuming him. She sobbed loudly, asking herself why he left without her. Why he refused to help her, why he didn't take her with him.
The answer was quite simple, actually. All she had to do was turn around and she would realize the word "LIFE" were spray painted on the wall. He had refused knowing that she would die had he taken her with him, but instead he had chosen her physical well-being. Her spiritual and mental well-being were unstable, depression and suicide thoughts making their way periodically into her mind.
Cinder suddenly awoke, her back straightening suddenly causing her neck and shoulder pain. Her left hand was still attached to Flint's, unwilling to let go despite the nightmare. She yawned, finally removing her hand from Flint's and rubbing her eye tiredly. She stretched her arm upward at the same time, all the while yawning. She heard the click of the door opening, the sound of the screws clicking as it struggled against the widget of the door.
"Ah, Miss Fall. May I come in?" Ozpin asked, standing in the doorway. His eyes surveyed her, taking in not only her physical health nut her mental health as well.
"Yeah, yeah, come in." Cinder said, motioning with her hand. She excused herself, leaving the bed and entering the bathroom to freshen herself, leaving Ozpin with an unconscious Flint. Once the sink began it's liquid run and the noise began, Ozpin placed his hand over Flint's knuckles,
"Although I know you cannot respond, I know you can still hear me. I have something to say to you, but I feel like I'd rather say it to your face, to your living soul. Just so you know, it happens to be about your father." Ozpin said to the unconscious body, nodding before Cinder came out of the bathroom.
"I'm sorry, did you need something? I thought I heard you say something?" Cinder asked, readjusting her dress slightly. She still wore the flaming, ash-like dress she always had but the dress, after hours of sleeping, felt foreign to her.
"No, no, I just came to see my pupil. Did he not tell you?" Ozpin stated, raising his brow slightly.
"No, I didn't know you two knew each other."
"Well, while the two of you were attending Cardinal Academy, he came to me for additional lessons. It was nothing much, really." Ozpin offered a small smile, prompting one out of Cinder.
"Well, I'll be taking my leave. I have things to do. When he wakes, tell him to come talk to me." Ozpin said, turning around and heading to the door.
"How do you know he will? He's been in a coma for 3 weeks now. Even the doctors don't know when he'll wake up." Cinder asked, anxious to hear his answer. For some reason, something inside her told her to ask. Not like it would change anything, but she wanted to hear his answer.
"If I know my student as well as you know your husband, it won't be long now." Ozpin stated before leaving. Cinder caught a small glimpse of his eyes as he turned to leave the doorway. She had seen a look of sorrow in his eyes, but for the reason she didn't quite know why.
--
Another day had passed, and Flint still hadn't awoken. Cinder sat in the stool near his bed, refusing to leave his side. She held his hand once more, trying to penetrate the barrier separating them with her gaze.
Lillyana, Flint's younger sister, would soon becoming to see Flint. She'd also promised to bring Emilia, Cinder's daughter. They would be here any minute now, but Cinder was intent on staying by his side until he awoke. His wounds had long since healed, so why had he not woken up? What was the reason as to why he was still locked in this state of near-death?
Cinder's thoughts were interrupted by a light knock on the door, probably being Lillyana and Emilia. She anxiously walked to the door, excited to finally see her daughter after such a long time. She opened the door, and immediately her tears swelled in her eyes. Her daughter, a mere infant the last she had seen her, was now a toddler. The baby was being held by a beautiful female with dark-blue hair exactly like Flint's, but her eyes were a dark red now. Probably contacts, but the contacts brought out the color of her hair even more.
"Lillyana! It's so nice to see you!" Cinder greeted, hugging her new sister. She then turned her attention to her daughter, smiling and shouting for attention from her mother.
"Oh, Emilia. You've grown so much!" Cinder spouted, lifting the baby into the air. The baby giggled, then burped.
"If only your father could see you now." Cinder said, bring the child down and cradling her against her chest. She turned her body, allowing Lillyana entrance into the room.
"He still hasn't woken up yet?" Lillyana asked, walking to the bed with Cinder.
"No, he hasn't. Can you stay here for a bit? I'm going to take a break with Emilia." Cinder asked, waking towards the door.
"Yeah, no problem. Gladly." Lillyana replied, not paying much attention to her. She had aalready sat down in the stool, unmoving. Cinder smiled lightly, leaving the room with her daughter in hand.
-1 And A Half Hours Later-
Cinder walked quietly, placing a finger over her pursed lips in an attempt to shush oncoming pedestrians. Emilia slept soundly on her shoulder, the toddler being completely worn out from their little adventure around the hospital.
She was approaching Flint's room, her eyes scanning for the room number. She heard someone gasp loudly, then glass breaking. This was followed by sobbing, prompting Cinder's curiosity to spike. What had happened? Did something bad happen to Flint? As Cinder's mind traced the thoughts and poissiblitles of any negative event happening to Flint, her feet shuffled under her more quickly. She found herself in from of Flint's door, opening the brass frame.
She stood in the doorway, about as shocked as a human being could.
"F-Flint...." Cinder breathed, her tears already beginning. Flint had indeed awoken, after nearly a month-long coma. She ran to his bed, the dark-blue haired male having been sitting up and comforting his younger sister who cried into his shoulder relentlessly. She took the other shoulder, crying deeply and waking her baby. The baby cried loudly as Cinder felt Flint's arm reach around her, patting her back soothingly.
"I'm sorry about the scare. Now mind if I see my daughter?"
