I make my way down the hallway soaking wet from the very common London rain. I'm late to class as usual. I adjust my flower crown for about the hundredth time this morning.
"Mr. Ruder shouldn't you be in class?" I turn to see the headmistress walking down the hall with a sour expression on her face.
"Yes Mrs. Maxwell. I was just running a little late this morning," I quickly respond.
"And every other morning," she remarks, "well since you are headed to class please escort Phillip here there too. He has the same class as you this period."
For the first time I notice the boy standing behind her, completely shocked I hadn't noticed him before. He was over six feet tall, which was rare around here, he was dressed head to toe in black, his arms covered in tattoos, his face covered in piercings. He had black hair and eyes so blue you could swim in them. He was stunning, and he was definitely looking at me.
He looks me up and down, probably judging me. I'm just about his height standing at 6'2", I'm probably one of the tallest guys in school, a purple flower crown sits on my overly straightened hair, a white collared button up shirt under a baggy baby pink sweater, lavender jeans, and white converse with a yellow rose painted on the side by my friend PJ. I'm a giant pastel mess.
Mrs. Maxwell walked away leaving me and the tattooed boy alone.
"Finally alone," he finally spoke, his voice deep and gentile. "Where are we headed Pastels?" I blushed at the nickname he gave me.
"This way Tattoos, we have chemistry."
"Oh, I say we definitely do." he says winking at me.
" W-what! No! I mean we have chemistry in room 480 with Mr. Jefferson," I stutter out. Tattoos laughs, a completely adorable laugh that reaches his eyes and makes him stick out his tongue.
I quickly turn around so he won't see me blushing, my shoes squeak on the wet tile. I grab his schedule out of his hand and sigh when I look at it.
"We have every class together," I say.
"Well Pastels, seems like we'll be getting to know each other quite well."
"My name is Aiden," I correct.
"Still gonna call you Pastels," he says chuckling a little.
I ignore him, adjusting my flower crown as I continue to walk to class. We arrived extremely late and I'm thankful there is a new student to keep Mr. Jefferson's attention off me.
"You must be Mr. Bishop. I've been expecting you," Mr. Jefferson says.
"Yeah, you can call me Phil," says Tattoos.
"Well Phil, why don't you have a seat by Mr. Ruder, he'll be your new lab partner."
I adjust my flower crown and pull out my notebook and begin to doodle, ignoring Phil's presence even after he tries to comment on my doodles. I continue like this up until lunch, when Phil goes off with some girl from our english class whose name I think is Vanessa. I go meet my best and only friend PJ at a spot under a tree behind the school since the day has cleared up and it's nice enough to eat outside.
"Hey Peej," I say dropping my bag beside him, "I've had the worst day."
"Is it about Ryan again?" PJ asks about my ex boyfriend.
"Who? Oh, no, not Ryan," I say realizing I hadn't so much as thought about my ex boyfriend Ryan since getting to school this morning.
Ryan was my last boyfriend things with him had ended pretty badly and I was left heartbroken. I thought he had really cared about me until I caught him with some girl during the year 9 camping trip over the summer. It's been a year but he tried to reach out to me about a month ago so the wounds had been reopened fairly recently.
