This story begins with a hockey puck.
Everything can be traced back to that extremely stupid hockey puck.
It all started on November 18, I went to a hockey game with my best friend Sydney so she wouldn't have to watch her boyfriend play alone. Hockey is a big deal at our school so, Everyone and I do mean everyone comes to these games every weekend. Syd is my only friend so I couldn't exactly tell her no.
"Oh Eleanor this is going to be such a good game!" Sydney proclaimed
"Syd, you know I don't do sports"
it was true. I am a bookworm who never does anything fun. But ever since Sydney started dating Jeff I've had to come to all his games. He's not even my boyfriend and I still have to watch him play all thre time. I swear to God this is a polygamist relationship because how much I'm involved.
" Oh stop being such a buzzkill hun! WE ARE HAVING GIRLS NIGHT!!"
"No we are having watch Jeff play hockey and then get harassed by his teammates at the diner night" well, it was true...
"Who peed in your cheerios this morning, Eleanor?"
"No one this just isn't my idea if fun" I replied
Syd and I have been best friends since kindergarten but the second she started dating Jeff, I was out of the picture. We used to be as thick as thieves but now I'm lucky if I get a text to do something that doesn't involve Jeff. I just miss the way things used to be. Boys always complicate things.
I continued to watch this stupid game. We were playing our biggest rivals...the falcons. The falcons were the best at every sport. Our school always sucked compared to theirs. They had higher test scores, better athletics, and got gourmet food for lunch. At least that's what I hear.
"Are you mad at me, El" Syd asked with a worried look on her face.
"No" I replied looking her in the eyes "I'm just a little cranky today"
"So we're still best friends?" She said with a smile
"Good!! Because I'm going to need you to help me pick out a winter formal dress soon!!"
"Oh God, do I have too?" I replied
"HONOR YOUR BEST FRIEND RESPONSIBILITIES!!"
I just sighed
"Ok but I'm not even going" I've never been to a school dance nor do I want to.
"Oh hush, you never know. Some guy could ask you!"
"Most likely not, Syd, no guys notice me and when they do it is usually to tease me."
There's no reason to tease me. I'm just normal looking. Not too tall not too short. I'm 5'5 and a little more than petite. I have wavy chestnut brown hair that goes down my back and i have big hazel eyes. i look like your everyday Michigan girl. I'm just normal nothing extraordinary about me. I just fit in and that's all I ever wanted in life.
