Maddie

I stared at him. His eyes were steady on the drawing pad in front of him. His black hair fell over his deep blue eyes. My bestfriend, Alec. I've known him since we were both 3. 13 long years of constant friendship.

"You're staring at me, Maddie" he said without looking up from his drawing pad.

"How did you know?"

"I know you better than you know yourself" Alec laughed

"Is that so?" I said, hoping to wind him up

"Yes and you know it is" he said remaining his calmness

I thought back to what Chloe had said to me earlier

"Are you hot?" I asked him

This time he did look up at me, his eyebrows raised in disbelief

"Well, are you?"

"I'm not sure if I can answer that" he said "Why'd you ask?"

"Chloe asked if we were dating and when I told her we were just friends she said I must be gay if I can't see how hot you are. So, are you hot?"

"Why did she want to know if we were dating?" he asked

"She wants to ask you to prom, I guess. Her and all the other girls in the year. But I don't see how you're hot!"

"Wow, way to up a man's self-esteem" he said jokingly

I looked more intently at him. He had a sharp jawline, if you're into that sort of stuff. No, the reason why I'm friends with him is his personality. He was a gentleman, cool and collected. His fingers worked wonders on paper; Paint, pencils, it didn't matter, it would always look amazing. He may not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but at the end of the day, that didn't matter.

"Quit staring at me. It's creepy." He said, starting to laugh at my intent glare

I gave up then. He's always been like a brother to me; trying to find him attractive was impossible.

"What are you drawing, anyway?" I asked, trying to look over his shoulder.

"You." He said, his eyebrows furrowing in concentration.

Of course he was. Over the years I had accumulated enough portraits of myself to wallpaper my room. I looked over at this particular one. I was staring avidly at my computer screen, probably in the middle of shooting zombies. I laughed at the way he'd chosen to present me; a psychopathic, zombie smashing gamer.

The bell rang around us, signalling the start of hell. Alec gathered his bag and headed over to the arts block, while I made my way to computing. I tried to cherish time before and after school with him, as we only had Chemistry together. He waved me goodbye and left.

"Hey, have you heard about the new twins?" Chloe, known to Alec and I as 'The Bitch', asked me.

I sighed and replied "No" simply before beginning to walk away.

She raced after me "The girl one has purple hair, so tacky. But the boy, fuck he's hot. The things I could do to him..."

"I don't want to know, and I really don't care." I retorted

"I'm beginning to think you're seriously frigid."

"Great. Now leave me alone and have a nice day." Bitch.

I fumbled with my locker, trying to get my PE kit out. I hated PE and I always tried to get out of it. My usual excuse of 'I'm on my period' didn't work this time. Yay, exercise! I rushed to the changing room, and quickly got changed out of my uniform and into the even more putrid PE uniform. Satisfied that was as good as I could look in that, I checked myself in the mirror.
