There were hours.
Eight hours, to be exact.
Eight mind numbing hours of sitting still on a chair all day, listening to your teachers drone on and on about things you will never have to use when you graduate college. Seconds that turn into minutes that soon stretch into long hours. Hours of boredom, sleepiness, and forcing yourself to keep your eyes open just so that you wouldn't be scolded by your History teacher for the third time that day, forced to stand up and be embarrassed in front of the whole class. If she detects so much as a yawn from one of her students, she won't let you go until you've answered one of her questions. And it weren't those easy type of questions either; they were top of the grade, Class A questions that only few history geeks in your grade can answer correctly and precisely.
And the thing was, she never called on those history geeks.
She would scan the whole room, looking for some poor student who would just let out a yawn accidentally to prey on. Namely, you.
Out of all the times you had to let out a small, tiny yawn, it had to be in History. It was enough that she had eyeballed you most of the period when you had accidentally drifted off for a few seconds just to wake up when she started click-clacking her heels towards you. But to yawn when she was already watching you?
Three words: worst timing ever.
"Oh I'm sorry, [L/N]. Is my class too boring for you?" she asked nastily, sticking her bony nose up high as if you weren't worth her time.
"U-uh no... it's just that I- um..." you began to stutter nervously, looking at your fellow classmates for some help. Your eyes landed on your best friend and you gave her a pleading look, subconsciously asking her for some back-up. She nodded.
"If I may add something, sensei–" she stood up from her seat, raising her hand high in the air.
"Sit back down, [B/F/N]. What would be your excuse for your fellow friend this time? Insomnia? A fever?" she sneered at the poor girl, making her turn a light shade of pink. "If I remember correctly, the last time I called on [L/N], you said that she had a terrible case of stomach ache the night before, resulting to her lack of sleep. And when I called her parents, they said that she had been practicing that night for an upcoming volleyball match."
The teacher sent her a glare.
"Feed me one more lie and you'll be staying after school, cleaning every single bathroom by yourself. Do I make myself clear?"
Your best friend nodded, sitting back down. She sent you an apologetic look. You shook your head and gave her a thumbs up, telling her that it was okay.
"Now, Ms. [L/N]. If you were listening to my discussion earlier, you would know when the First World War occurred, the reason why it started, and all the countries involved in the said war," she glared at you, smirking triumphantly when she had seen your confused expression.
Weren't we discussing about magistrates? How did we get to World War One? you thought to yourself, furrowing your brow. Or did I fall asleep again in the last few lessons again?
