Nash's eyes are wide as he stares into the caramel brown eyes of the man that despite his best efforts, he still loves. At the advice of his close friend, the one who gave him the recording of Cameron talking about how he was using Nash, he avoided talking to Cameron face to face or even on the phone. After he broke up with him he blocked Cameron's number in an attempt to have a clean break and be able to move on from his heartbreak.
But he loves him, he loves him so much still and it's so tempting to listen to Cameron's voicemails, he leaves one everyday around the same time but Nash never listens to them because he thinks it might weaken his resolve and make him call Cameron back. He just can't bring himself to delete them so they just sit in his voicemail.
He's done it for over six months and he never imagined in a big city like LA he'd run into Cameron at a Walmart of all things. He knows Cameron lives in poverty, he had sold all of his furniture and his jet skis to tour with Nash. Nash does feel guilty that Cameron is practically destitute because of him but it doesn't override the hurt he feels at finding out that the person he loves had been using him for money, that he was with him for the things that he could buy for Cameron. It made him feel dumb that he had dropped over 1k on a phone for Cameron for his birthday, he had even been contemplating buying Cameron a newer car as a combination present for his birthday and Christmas. He knows Cameron's voice, he heard the recording and recognized him right away.
But now that Cameron is in front of him, looking at him with those beautiful caramel brown eyes that he fell in love with and with an earnest expression, the resolve he has to not communicate with Cameron at all is crumbling away. Whenever he felt weak, whenever he felt like he was going to call Cameron, he would call his friend instead and that friend would talk him off the ledge. His friend would remind him that Cameron never truly loved Nash, that he was just using him. Even though it hurt to hear those words he knew it was for his own good.
But that friend isn't here now, Tez is with him and Tez always had a good relationship with Cameron.
He can hear Tez walking up to him and Tez raises an eyebrow when Nash turns slightly to look at him.
"Yeah... I'll be in the entertainment section looking for games," Tez says with a small smirk on his face. He's one of the few people to think that Cameron is innocent, he knows there must be a reason behind the recording because it obvious for anyone who looks at Cameron to see how devoted and in love he is with Nash. It's still plain to see.
He nods at Cameron who gives him a grateful smile before he walks past them and heads off to look at games for his xbox.
Nash meets Cameron's eyes again, Cameron's heart skip beats and he can feel his palms getting sweaty.
He's finally gotten the one chance he's been looking for, the one conversation he's been begging Nash to have and he doesn't want to mess it up. He knows he might not get another chance.
Nash's eyes drink in Cameron and he frowns because Cameron looks thinner, he looks miserable with dark bags under his eyes and his clothes have seen better days. His heart clenches at the fact that Cameron has clearly been struggling, he hates to see just how much their break-up affected Cameron physically and very clearly emotionally.
"I don't know if you've gotten a chance to hear my messages-" Cameron starts off softly.
"I haven't," Nash interjects and Cameron pauses, he knew there was a chance that Nash was just deleting his messages but to hear confirmation hurts more than he could have imagined.
"Oh.." he trails off as he tries to gather his thoughts again.
"I needed a clean break... I couldn't be listening to your messages everyday while also trying to move on. It would have been counterproductive," Nash explains quietly when he sees hurt flash across Cameron's face.
