Christine Belcher is nervously looking at her car window watching Washington DC pass by as all of the memories from last year ran through her head. Like the time when she and her friends took the last train to Paris and crashed a wedding. Or when they pretended to be backup dancers so they could meet Taylor Swift.
But that was all gone now.
She swallowed hard, pushing the tears away.
But maybe it could be like that again. Maybe she would find someone just as crazy as Tess, Alby, Marcus, Jane, Laura, Sophie and Ethan.
But that would be impossible since all Americans are shallow minded common white girls obsessed with gender equality, war and Starbucks. Plus, they all thought that they were the shit. So all Americans were some selfish, shallow minded Starbucks obsessed feminist common white girls.
Suddenly she saw a huge castle with pointed windows and two towers. Parents are dropping off their kids in fancy cars not like the buses Christine saw in movies.
Maybe America wasn't like the movies at all. Or maybe it was, but this was just another face.
But then she realized that if this wasn't a crappy private school with buses and defined cliques, it was a super expensive private school for nerds. Or maybe it was a Constance Billard. She was really hoping it was a Constance.
Once she was inside, she realized that the Cartstairs girls were just common white girls with uniforms and the boys were all ugly except for one or two acceptable ones.
Christine felt like a fish out of water there, she hadn't gotten a good first impression of anyone yet. She didn't want to go with the white girls, but she would never in the world go with the weird kids. She was in the middle. An outsider. The thought made her nauseous.
Plus, what was she going to say?
Was she going to tell how she made out with some boy at a yacht in Cabo or how she woke up at the beach with some Argentinians at Punta or something?
Were people going to find the crazy tricks she did at London interesting? Or would she just be weird? Christine wanted to try, but it was too risky to fuck up on your first day.
"Hey!!!" A girl said. She seemed to come out of nowhere.
She was uglier than the other girls, maybe because she wasn't wearing 15 pounds of makeup. She didn't have a long champ bag or a Tiffany. She was normal
"Hey" Christine said happy to find someone to talk to.
"I'm Ellie" the girl said, she was short, a tiny bit taller than Christine but still short. She had small eyes that pointed upwards and bold brows. Her lips looked like a pink banana when she smiled. Her hair was put on a messy ponytail and she had her burgundy and gold uniform perfectly put together. Even with moccasins.
The Cartstairs uniform wasn't at all ugly. It consisted of a short scarlet pleated skirt that had like a gold ring going through the hem, well, inches away. Then it had a white shirt with a scarlet tie with gold stripes and finished with a scarlet blazer with the Cartstairs symbol in the pocket. It was simple yet pretty.
"Christine" She introduced herself.
"And what do they call you?"
"Chrissy" She said
"What's grade are you in, Chrissy?" Ellie asked
"Eleventh" She said
"What?"
For a moment Christine forgot that they called it Junior here.
"Junior" she then said.
"Omg me too!!!" Ellie said.
Christine smiled. She had someone talk to her. Maybe this wasn't gonna be such an awful year after all.
"Come on, I'll show you around"
Ellie basically gave her a tour of the whole school. The reason why it was so big was because it was an elementary, middle and high school all fused in one building. And the at the left were the dorms for those that didn't live in DC. Ellie said Blair would live there next year when her dad went back to France.
Then Christine realized that they did have somewhat defined cliques there. They were just large groups of people in one place.
Ellie pointed out the jocks, the robotics nerds, the "cool kids" (they were actually just really cool weirdos) the TVD fangirls, the anime fans and what Ellie called the "bitches" per grade.
She said that the sophomore bitches were really annoying and selfish and that the seniors were just mean, and she said that Lexi and Elinor were the kindest out of the juniors and that she should not talk to platinum blonde Tris. The one from the "woke up with some Argentinians at a beach" and "Paraguayan cousins are insane" stories Christine overheard.
Ellie then showed Chrissy the principals office so she got her schedule. Mrs. Epps explained that all the subjects were divided into two groups, low and high. Since it was her first year Christine was judged by her really bad exams. She had almost all of them low, except for French, which was her first class. We are just getting started, so stay tuned for more
XOXO,
Margarita
