I walk up to the mat on our new porch that read "welcome" and stomped on it. I wasn't angry I just was planning on going to a college back in California. Now I need to wait a whole year to get into a college in Nebraska. It is nice and all but I miss being back at home in my real room. I continue to think and kick around the mat.
Mom spoke, waking me from my thoughts.
"Alison, are you alright?" I turn away and walk inside the unlocked house. I tour each room and go to mine. Walls painted beige. All empty besides a bed, desk, tv and my boxes. I began unpacking and look at old photos of friends.
I lazily throw all my clothes into the dresser and set up my desk.
About 2 hours later, my room was all set up and I had nothing to do. I tried to look through channels but there was nothing on. My radio was busted on the way over here so I couldn't listen to music either. I was in no mood to read so I just decided to take a walk around and hang out at that park a few streets down. I left my hair straight down, and threw on a white oversized sweater, ripped jeans and white high top converse.
"Ma," I yell running downstairs to the door. "I'm gonna go hang out at that park! See you in a half hour!".
I run out into the darkness and down the chilly streets. Barely any cars drove down here which was good for me cause I'm always outside.
I made it to the park a few minutes after and jumped onto a swing. It creaked as it swung back and fourth. I stand up in the swing and climb up to the bar holding the swings and let my feet dangle. I saw the outline of a guy jumping off of the roof of the playground. He began to walk towards me. I began to panic. Unable to get down. He stood beneath me.
"I'm not gonna hurt you or nothin," he spoke. I could not see his face because of his hoodie.
"Jump into my arms, I'll catch ya!" He says between giggles. I look around to see if there are any people around then back at him. I jumped.
He smelled of cologne. It was nice. He took off his hood and walked me over to the bench.
"What street is this?" I spoke breaking the silence.
"I take it your not from around here?" He laughs.
"I'm new.. I used to live in Cali" I smile.
"Ooh. Fascinating. What part?"
"A few minutes away from Hollywood"
We continued talking for a while about our life and how we got here.
"So what's your name? I never asked? Mine is Alison but you can call me Ali" I spoke.
"Jack.. Just call me Gilinsky cause I gotta friend named Jack J." He says standing up.
"What are you doing?" I asked standing with him.
"Going to smoke a cigarette?" He said as he began lighting it. I cover my nose as he puffs in and out.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"Nothing.. It's just- I don't like the smell of that.." I reply with a cough.
"Um.. I thought you where bad?"
"I am? Well even if I was I just don't roll like that." I say getting up to climb the fence and go to the lake.
"Well.. Have you ever tried it?" He said putting one foot on the fence.
"Nope. Don't plan to." I laugh, jumping to the ground. I run to the wet sand and remove my shoes.
"Gilinsky! C'mere!" I say. He walks over to me.
"What?" He says.
"How old are you?" I say hesitantly. I pray this guy isn't like 40+ .
"I'm 19 and you?"
"18" I say.
He takes off his hoodie and reveals his face, taking one last puff, and throwing the cigarette on the ground.
"Littering, you're so bad!" I laugh.
"Shut up!" He smiles.
I hope this guy isn't a weirdo. I have so many doubts about this guy. Like is he normal? Does he have a job? How cool is he really?
"Um.. I think I should leave" I say gritting my teeth.
"Why so soon?" He says walking behind me.
"Uh, cause it's late and I wanna go home?" I say as if it weren't obvious.
"Oh, well then I'll see you tomorrow? I hope? There's a party in a few days maybe you can come?"
"Uh.. We'll see.. I still don't know if you're a creeper or something, haha" I laugh half seriously.
"Haha, believe me, I'm not weird or nothin' , you'd know if I was" he says
"Yep.. I'm going home now!" I say going to jump the fence.
"Wait, what's your number?!" He yells
I belt it out and run home.
I get home and all I could think about was Gilinsky. Will he ever call me? I can't call him cause I don't have his number.
I take a shower to try and forget about him or at least take him off of my mind a little while. I didn't work.
I ring my hair out and got dressed leaving it wet, dressing in my baseball tee and sweatpants. I lye down in bed and try to sleep. Waiting for the ring. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
