not like he has before

It was excruciatingly boring in this first class. Mr. Lambort talks so slow and monotone, one might think that he was trying to put the class to sleep.
I looked over at Tayler and, almost as if he'd heard my silent cries, he looked back at me. I rolled my eyes as I nodded towards our elderly teacher and Tayler got the message. He shrugged his shoulders as if saying 'What can we do?'. I quietly sighed and turned back towards the board.

When the bell rang I grabbed my bag and met Tayler and Cody in the hall.

"You really don't understand- he is trying to get us to fall asleep in his class." Tayler complained. "'The poem was written to signify the meaning of life'" He mocked the boring teacher.

"At least y'all don't have Mrs. Gomez. It's impossible to understand her thick accent." Cody huffed opening the door.

"It's your fault for choosing Spanish class." I commented, suppressing a laugh.

Cody shook his head as we all headed to our claimed table to eat lunch.

"You know that I only chose that class 'cause y'all said y'all would." Tayler and I laughed and high-fived.

We were always teaming up to pull things against Cody, so the day before our school paperwork was due, we told Cody that we had chosen Spanish instead of Literature. To say that he was 'angry' when he found out we lied, would be an understatement.

"Sorry about that." Tayler laughed. "So who's house are we going to today?" he asked.

"My dad is taking my sister to some concert in Dallas and I lost my key, so not mine." I said, taking a bite of my sandwich.

"I have to take Caroline her stuff. So I can't come." Cody mumbled.

Caroline was Cody's ex-girlfriend of 6 years. In 5th grade he asked her to be his girlfriend by giving her all of his Silly Bandz. Let's just say, it was the most romantic thing you'd seen since The Titanic. To take away the romance, Caroline cheated on Cody last week.

"Then my house it is." Tayler nodded.

***********

"So you lost your key and haven't asked your dad to replace it?" Tayler asked, pulling out his own house key.

I shook my head.

"If he finds out I lost my key again, he would kill me." I replied as we walked up Tayler's driveway.

He just shook his head and walked inside.

"Tayler! Thank God your home. I need your help." His mom yelled from the kitchen.

As we set our bags down and turned the corner, we see the deranged looking woman covered in different ingredients and sweat. She only paused to speak.

"Oh hi Sam, you can help too!" She said happily. "I need y'all to get the wine glasses and china from the attic."

"It's not Christmas? And you stopped drinking. What's going on?" Tayler questioned her.

"Thank you sweetie!" His mom ignored him.

He sighed, heading to the hall, and pulling down the door to the attic. I ran, grabbing a flashlight from his room and handed it to him.

"Oh no. Your coming up here with me." He grabbed my arm and pulled me up with him.

"What are we supposed to do about Cody?" Tayler asked as he shone the flashlight around the sauna-like attic.

"I have no idea. I just can't believe that Caroline would do that to him." I shake my head.

"I say we go egg her house."
