Rose Watson. You couldn't even walk around a corner of Hogwarts without hearing her name. She was everywhere. The Marauders didn't know how nor why, but she just was. They couldn't get rid of her.
"Long day, huh?" mused Rose one day after lessons, sitting with the Marauders in the Gryffindor Common Room.
"Why are you here, Watson?" Sirius asked.
"Just to say hello." Rose shrugged.
"Well, say hello and leave," James replied a little sharply.
"That's not very nice, baby James." Mocked Rose, pouting at James like a puppy. "Maybe you should learn some manners."
She did that on a daily basis. Every time she spotted a Marauder, she'd speak to them. Of course, they would try to insult or sass her, and yet she wouldn't bat an eyelid as she responded with a sneaky insult or sassy remark ten times better than the one they'd had in the first place. She could respond to anything they said within a heartbeat and they didn't understand how it was possible.
But they still tried to out-sass her. So, that Friday, having known her for three weeks, they decided to play her own games against her, figuring that she only beat them with her sass and little remarks because she was the one who planned the conversation, not them.
"Good evening, little Rosie." Said Sirius, nodding as he took the seat opposite of Rose at the table she was sitting on with two fellow first years. Little did the Marauders know, Rose could see a spot of nervousness and anxiety in their eyes.
"M-Marauders." Squeaked the two first years, their eyes widening as they landed at the four boys.
"Lovely." Smiled Rose sarcastically, looking up from her Charms homework. "Marauders."
"We thought we'd come and see you for a change." Continued Sirius, his grin growing wider with every word.
"A nice change from you finding us every evening." Remarked Remus.
"I thought you were too lazy to move your arses from your seats by the fire to do anything, much less find me," Rose said in a mocking voice. "You continue to suprise me."
"You doing homework is a surprise to us too." Commented James, picking up the parchment that Rose had been writing notes on. "Thought people like you wouldn't do homework."
"Define "people like me"." Challenged Rose, folding her arms over her chest.
"Oh, you know, people who think that they're all that, idiots, weirdos, you get the list." Replied James cooly.
"Congratulations on describing your group, Potter." Smiled Rose.
"Funny. I had pictured you and your friends saying that." Said James, shooting Rose a sarcastic smile, just like the other Marauders.
"It's debatable on who the vain, idiotic, weirdos are. Pettigrew!" Rose shouted all of a sudden, earning Peter's full attention. "What's the spell used to summon something?"
"What?" Asked Peter, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"That's fourth-year stuff, at least." said Sirius.
"Yet I know it and you don't. Shows who the idiots really are, no?" Asked Rose.
It didn't matter that Rose was tiny, a year younger than the Marauders and had the appearance of someone particularly sweet and innocent. Rose Watson had a condescending nature surrounding her and something about it terrified the Marauders in a way they'd never be able to explain.
This chapter is really short, but I'll hopefully get Way Six published tomorrow :)
