Burn- Alexander Hamilton the Musical,                                                                                                                  written by Lin Manuel Miranda and performed by Philipa Soo

Am I even allowed to talk about and write about Burn when it already has a story?

Oh well.

Alexander Hamilton is the musical that is sweeping the nation, a hip hop musical that tells of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton's journey in the Revolutionary War. The song Burn is about Eliza's heartbreak over realizing that her husband has been in another affair, and it's even as scandalous as an affair in their own house, in their own bed.

I really wish that I could watch the actual musical, and since the musical itself has it's own story, I'm going to write a different one.

The Song

The song is actually quite different from most musical songs. Phillipa Soo can really belt, and she has a strong and high voice, but this song is almost meek. In fact, when she sings the chorus, you would think that she would go higher, since that is the norm for most musicals. However, she doesn't raise the pitch until the last phrase, where she sings "I'm watching it burn, the world has no right to my heart," in which the song reaches it's peak in climax. The tone of the voice is so tired, which gives it the sense of betrayal and exhaustion and the anger is captured greatly.

The Story

Funny thing, this story is actually partly true, so I hope you like it.

"You, you what?" Tears were already brimming in my eyes, the world blurring into a landscape of heat and anger.

"I'm sorry, but it's not my fault."

"It's not your fault? It's not your fault?" I felt a scoff escape my lips, my chest bucking with the sudden rush of breath falling through. "Not your fault?!" I felt like screaming. "I can't believe you could ever be so ignorant, you're an idiot!"

"I can't see why you're so mad! Just calm down!"

"You bitch! I can't believe you would do that, just because of your own anger, you didn't have to ruin my life too! What are you going to do now? You made me lose one of my best friends!" I screamed until my voice felt hoarse, everything running around in my head until all I could feel was the coursing of anxiety and the stress of how the hell am I supposed to fix this.

"I'm sorry! But you don't need her anyway! I'm still here, it's not the end of the world, Rosa, just forgive me, I'm you best friend," she pleaded, clueless.

"You were never my friend. Get out."

"But-"

"GET OUT"

There was a force that burned under my voice, and every single sacrifice I made for her passed through my mind, and it felt like I was dying. The old realization occurred, that maybe it's better to be paranoid than to be weak, and that a wall was better than no barriers left to protect my own skin.

"I'll never have anyone anymore how can you just ruin my life like that. Everything's ruined Rosa, it's all your fault! What am I going to do with my social life now?!" Her voice heightened and was shrill, and she pointed a shaking finger at me.

"Get out. GET OUT!" I shrieked, and she walked up to me. She was wearing our necklace. Our necklace. The one I gave to her

Everything burned inside me.

"You can fend without me. You shouldn't have been so careless." My voice was stone, cold and quiet, before I unclasped the necklace from her throat with one hand. "It's always been like this. I have to follow you around, picking up your mistakes, and now you've dropped a bomb. Again I have to fix it."

"Give that back," she murmured as I tucked the necklace into my back pocket.

"No,"

"It's mine,"

"It's not."

"I can't believe you,"

"I always pick up your problems, I always clean up after you. It's the least that you owe me," I snapped, before pointing to the door. "You have no place in my house." She turned back at me, and that innocent face, the one that was so fake stared at me. She stepped out the doorstep, and I slammed the door in her face.

Jamie.

Jamie is dead.

It wasn't her fault. Everyone thinks it's mine.

I collapsed to the cold entryway, as hot tears tracked their way down my face. It was the end. I couldn't believe that... I faded to blackness as the anger burned within me, absolutely burned.

Nothing else was left but fire.

Fin.
